Note from Yoda's Wife

Tools

Hey guys. Sorry for the lack of updates, still awkward to type so I've kept it to a minimum. Been trying to ease back in to simple tasks. And just generally staring at my own hand because I still can't believe it's part of me given how distorted it looks:

Constantly reaching for things or waving and then remembering I can't just do that any more:

Things have definitely improved, though. The specialist I saw a week ago told me I should be trying to make a fist, so this has pretty much been my week:

I did get there, though. There's still a lot of swelling (and/or scar tissue, the area just above the knuckle is so stiff it feels like it's made of stone sometimes), but I can finally (but barely) make a fist again for a minute or two at a time. I go back to the doctor a week from today to (hopefully) get the stitches out.

Thanks for all the well-wishes, gonna try to have something like a "normal" week this week.

^and now we know the true reason of that Mandalorian series Disney put out. The Mouse foresaw this (or conspired to see it through, depending on how you see Disney's control).

Cute clips, Yoda. Pretty great alignment. I hate to read that you're having such troubles, but am also relieved that it was not worse and that your pup is safe from your efforts. I assume physical therapy will slowly return control and reduce any pain? All the best over there and may the Force be with you. Luke completely lost his hand and look at what he was able to accomplish! I think you got this.

Please do keep us posted as you are able, and know you have a community over here behind you cheering you on during your recovery.

We are, and I'm sure it's a lovely thought ..... but I reckon given a choice he'd rather have had the community in front of him when it was all just about to go down

Yeah I was just looking around and I thought "oh man, the Force stuff means he's using his right hand in evocative ways in almost every GIF."

Yeah, it's possible they weren't going to hurt each other but my concern was if just one of them escalates with a bite, suddenly it's life-or-death and my dog, on paper, isn't the one I'd bet to win that (especially since he's never bit anything or anyone, even now). I had a lot of time to think of better ways to handle it, naturally.

Yeah, some moderate physical therapy should do it. Seems to be that if there are no broken bones, and you can use it and feel it, then you've avoided nerve and tendon damage and you'll be pretty close to normal in a few weeks. We'll see. That said, the hand specialist we saw the next morning said I had a "bone puncture" from the bite, which is a phrase I can't really process.

The Adventure Starts Here!
Great, now I'm picturing marrow leaking out of your "bone puncture"!

Meanwhile, I'm just so delighted and proud that you're not only typing as much as you are, but with capital letters and punctuation and everything! That one text from you with no punctuation or capitals last week momentarily freaked me out.

Don't overdo it -- although I guess physical therapy movements mean "do stuff that FEELS like you're overdoing it," right? Take it easy over there!

Yeah, I can do that stuff normally, but it does hurt more. The finger itself not as much, that's just uncomfortable. The pain is mostly from weird hand and forearm muscles that must be compensating for the injury but otherwise don't get used this much. It's not great, gonna have to force myself to take breaks and spend a lot less time typing and clicking than I usually would.

But yeah, physical therapy is basically "you know that thing you want to do less than anything else in the world? You have to do that."

The thing isolated becomes incomprehensible
Damnn! Get well soon Master Yoda! We'll be missing your lengthy posts on intelectual discussions that basically kick all our asses.

Are you on antibiotics? I presume you are as they would be worried the bone would become infected.

Tell us your thoughts on this “bad” doggie? Should he have been outside? Was he leashed? Are you mad at his owners? That would be a fear of mine: taking a walk & someone’s mad mutt comes running after me.

yeah. Some of us can take a road trip and burn the guy's house down keeping you safe from any motive connection except now that I've posted th.... offer our support.

Yeah, they gave me enough for the week, which means they just ran out. Probably the biggest (and most pungent, after a few days) pills I've ever swallowed.

I think he's a nice dog, don't think he was really trying to hurt anyone or looking to fight. It's hard to say more about what should have happened without knowing how he got out. To be safe, I feel like he should have been on his leash/chain on the porch, even with the bars and gate. If he really can't get out though, and the gate just wasn't latched or something, then maybe that's sufficient and it was just a simple mistake, thinking something had clicked when it hadn't. I'm not sure if it's irresponsible to leave him unleashed if the gate is secure, and I'm not sure if it's irresponsible to have him on the porch by himself, regardless. Hard to say.

I do think he needs to be hooked up to something when he's on the porch now, though, if nobody's there with him, gate or no.

They wisely and understandably didn't try to talk to me much while I was covering the wound and waiting for the ambulance. Police showed up first and asked them some questions. I think the mother (it's her son's dog, though he's either a legal adult or close to it, not sure) asked me if I was okay at some point.

She happened to see us walking out the door a couple days later, yelled over to ask how we were doing, we came closer and I gave her a basic update (think we avoided the worst, probably not long-term damage). She said she got me something and would bring it over, but then we ran into her again and she asked us to hang on, then came back with an orchid. A nice thought, at least, but what you really wanna hear right after "are you doing okay?" is "obviously we'll cover the medical bills." Possibly right before something like "we're not sure what happened but we'll make sure he's secured from now on."

A very very odd gift for a man. (Maybe she was re-gifting says cynical me.)

As you say, what was needed is “We promise this will never happen again & we are so very sorry for what has happened”. Personally, I would be mortified if a pet of mine bit someone.

I’m guessing you didn’t want to make a huge thing of it in case these people euthanized the poor mutt. At least that’s what would have worried me.

Yeah, I didn't make a big thing of it, and I specifically said I wasn't mad at the dog and hope it was okay, that it seemed like a nice dog, et cetera. That influences a lot of this, frankly. I don't want to take a financial hit in addition to being attacked, but I have no desire to get them in trouble or ask for anything for the pain or inconvenience, or anything. I don't want them or the dog to get in trouble.

Pretty sure it was a pit bull. Might be some kind of mix, not positive.

I've always thought it was a cool/friendly looking dog, always wanted to pet it.

And you certainly got to try your hand at that, eh?

I’m sorry... I get weird doing tragic happenings...

Anyways, I’m glad to see you posting again, Yodes! Hopefully everything’s a little better now or at least moving in the right direction.
