Music, movies, stand-up is it for me.. It's very difficult to have a conversation if people have no idea what you're talking about.. I was so bored a few days ago, I posted something somewhere in hopes of finding a kindred spirit to talk with, but the two who did were women who really didn't know much, and started talking about ... tires... husbands... and I didn't have the heart to tell them they were boring, so I deleted my entire account instead of blocking them.

Writing and acting are a few obvious things I look for in a great movie... With music, it's about the song. I don't even care about lyrics anymore, but the vocals are so important to me, and also how it's sung.. Double-tracked? Harmonies. Vibrato. Soul.. And then there's the music, and while most people ask about genre, for me it's about a time (production and engineering are very important to me), creativity, but it's really not intellectual, and more of a feeling.. I was just watching a concert and had tears in my eyes because the solo was too great.

I want to try and list more of the "ignored" stuff, but I also don't want to ignore something popular even if everyone knows it..

I also love interviews, too, and might post them. And maybe other things I'm not thinking of yet.

Even on heroin Jimmy Page sounds great. Unfortunately, the studio version has 4-5 guitars, and I don't know what the hell JPJ is doing (that bass sounds like shit)

I was lucky to have seen and met/talked with Mort Sahl four times, traveling thousands of miles to see my hero... It's funny how this happened. After going decades not being able to find someone I could discuss him, I thought, "I might as well discuss him with him"

Of course, he was screwed over...

1967 - discussing Joe Kennedy and others who tried blacklisting him.

His 60s stuff was pop shit, but in the 70s, he transformed.. But then he killed himself shortly after his mother died.

Nino Ferrer - l'arbre noir

Cool thread. Keep em coming Matt

Supertramp - Gone HOLLYWOOD

It's just heartbreaking
I should have known that it would let me down
It's just a mind aching
I used to dream about this town
It was a sight to see, the place to be
Where the living is easy
And the kicks can always be found
It's such a shame about it
I used to think that it would feel so good
But who's to blame about it
So many creeps in Hollywood
I'm in this dumb motel near the Taco Bell
Without a hope in hell
I can't believe that I'm still around
Ain't nothing new
In my life today
Ain't nothing true
It's all gone away
I've had too much cryin', seen too much grief
I'm sick of tryin' it's beyond belief
I'm tired of talking on the telephone
They're trying to tell me that they're not at home
Ain't nothing new
In my life today
I've had enough of walking from place to place
I've yet to come across a friendly face
And now the words sound familiar, as you slam the door
You're not what we're looking for
Ain't nothing new
In my life today
Ain't nothing true
It's all gone away
If we only had time, only had time for you
If we only had time, only had time for you
If we only had time, only had time for you
It was a heartbreaking
Now I ride in a big fine car
It was mind aching
Yeah, I'm the talk of the boulevard
So keep your chin up boy, forget the pain
I know you'll make it if you try again
There's no use in quitting
When the world is waiting for you

One more song with the word "Hollywood" in the title.

Gosh, those opening piano chords are too great... And the three lead singers simultaneously. It's too great.

Chicago - Something In This City Changes People / Hollywood (1973)

Maitre D's will see me
Knowing what I spend
They offend
So sad, so sad
Smiling faces greet me
Everyone's my friend
They pretend
So sad, so sad

They see I am happy
With my lady (They're not satisfied, all their feelings died)
Something in this city
Changes people (Makes them devil-eyed)

My love she waits for me
When I'm far away
Counting days
So sad, so sad
They all know our story
Still they try to play
Anyway
So sad, so sad

Flashing cars and morning
Funny faces (Egos magnified, quite unjustified)
Something in this city
Changes People (Makes them devil-eyed)

the last days of elvis

Stones music had so much attitude and energy..... I always SAY I like The Beatles a little more, but I seem to listen to the Stones more... Maybe it's because I love solo-Beatles or because I like John Lennon's humor and interviews.
