Watch Movies You Should Have Already Seen

That has been/was a problem for fans of the books, it has to be said. I'd never heard of Jack Reacher, so it's not a problem for me. However, I can remember the Anne Rice fans kicking off when Cruise was cast for Lestat. Especially when she came out and said she thought Val Kilmer would've been perfect, which I had to agree with. But Tom won, pretty much, everyone over and, let's face it, physically he's nothing like the Rice character, either.

My guess is, if you don't take it seriously or think "THIS ISN'T JACK REACHER" the whole way through, it should be ok.

Anyway, I look forward to hearing what you thought of it.

I barely remember the book so it's no big deal. I like Tom, and thought he did well as Lestat. Better than Pitt, who seemed a bit too stiff at times.

Oh, God. Now I really don't want to see it. The only good thing about the film is an impression of a character I've always hated from a film I used to/do like? That's really not a recommendation, is it.
I wouldn't rec based on his performance, anyway. It wasn't bad but nothing special. He was relatively magnetic and slightly intriguing only in comparison to the rest of the cast.

If I were to hesitantly rec it, it would be for Harmony Korine's direction. There are a few stand-out scenes, like the robbery shown from the POV of the getaway driver, which was more interesting than it sounds. But overall it was a dull film.

Jack Reacher turned out to be a good thriller. The trailer didn't do it justice. It's darker and more intense than I thought it would be. Less action and more dialogue-heavy than I assumed, but for the better since the dialogue was entertaining and the action was extremely well done and a bit realistically messy. I liked that it was also very visually engaging for the viewer, showing a lot of information without spelling everything out. Thanks, HK.

Yeah, I've seen the first four. Just needed a little push to see the fifth I guess.

Gangster Rap is Shakespeare for the Future
8) Eric Rohmer's Moral Tales (besides My Night at Maud's)
The first two are easy two watch short, the first of which I really like, the second less so. Claire's Knee is the best by far of the remaining Moral Tales, it's among my favorites of his. Overall though, I prefer the Comedies and Proverbs to the Moral Tales. The Green Ray (his best film), The Aviator's Wife and Boyfriends and Girlfriends the best among them.

10) Jeanne Dielman 23, quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles
I've felt like I've really needed to see this for a long time too but haven't gotten to it yet. Go Rohmer though.

1. Mon Oncle
2. El Sur
3. More Raoul Ruiz (any I can find)
4. Flowers of Shanghai
5. Les Vampires
6. Center Stage
7. More Mikio Naruse (seen Floating Clouds only)
8. By the Bluest of Seas
9. The Shop Around the Corner
10. Spring in a Small Town

I post commented on Guap's comment and he didn't take notice, so I'm starting Les Vampires. Certainly an undertaking for the day, but Feuillade's other serial, Fantomas, was very wonderful, so I'm excited. I like this thread, but I think requiring 10 movies makes people a little more cautious in posting here. I think 5 or however many posters want to put would be fine.
