I need some help with mild horror movie suggestions

You can't make a rainbow without a little rain.
I want to send in a list for the upcoming MoFo Horror Movie Countdown, but as many of you know, I'm not a fan of horror movies. Hopefully some of you can help me out by suggesting some mild horror movies.

Here are some guidelines that might help:

The key thing to remember is that I don't mind movies that scare me, but I don't like gory movies.

Also, I'm not good with subtitles, so only suggest English movies please.

I like suspense thrillers and psychological thrillers.
I like a good ghost story, as long as it's not gory.
Murder mysteries are good too, as long as they're not too graphic.
Sci-fi movies are great if they're not too graphic.

I don't like slasher movies.
I don't like blood and guts.
I don't like gory movies.
I don't like anything disgusting.
I don't like movies with bugs, spiders, or anything "creepy-crawly".
I don't like movies where any animals get hurt or killed.

I can't guarantee that I'll watch all the suggestions, but I'll try to watch any of them that sound like they might be closer to the type of mild horror that I might like.

Thanks in advance for your help.

First ones that come to mind:

The Exorcist (1973)
The Changeling (1980)
The Entity (1982)
The VVitch (2015)
The Omen (1976)

Thanks for the suggestions.

I've heard a lot about The Exorcist and The Omen for years, and I know that they're both very highly rated but I've never seen them, so I'll probably watch both of those.

I think I saw The Changeling a while back, but I don't remember anything about it except that it starred George C. Scott. I'll probably rewatch it.

I don't know anything about The Entity or The VVitch, so I'll have to look into those movies.

I've seen a few of the older movies on your list, including most of the old Universal Monster movies, and a few of the old sci-fi movies.

I might watch Idle Hands because Hubby likes it and he has the DVD. I don't mind horror comedy if it's fun, but my sense of humor is kind of unique, so it's tough to find good comedies. (I saw a horror comedy called Student Bodies many years ago, and I thought it was very funny.)

I saw Jacob's Ladder years ago, and I'm still trying to understand it.

I live on Long Island, so I know a lot about The Amityville Horror, and I've been on the street where the actual house is, but I've never seen the movie. I might finally watch it.

I haven't heard of many of these movies, so I'll look into them.

How do you define 'mild horror'? Do you mean less gore and violence, or less darker themes?

Less gore, blood and guts, and not too graphic.

I watch a lot of police dramas on TV, so I've seen a lot of violence. It's basically the gore that I hate. Also, I won't watch anything with animal cruelty, or anything bad happening to animals.

Oh okay. Well my favorite horror movie is The Skin I Live In (2011). It doesn't have much blood and guts, but the psychological horror and dark themes are taken to an extreme, so I wouldn't call it mild in that sense, if that's okay for you.

As for animal cruelty, an animal is killed for a science experiment, but you don't see it, and it's just explained through dialogue, after the fact, if that's okay.

That sounds like a movie I might be able to watch. I'm usually okay with psychological thrillers, so a psychological horror might be good. I'll give it a try.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Sure. But as far as blood goes, you do see some in containers in a lab type setting, and one of them taken from the dead animal as well, if that is okay.

I'm okay with blood in containers. It's when the blood is coming out of a body, or a limb, or some other body part that I can't watch it.

The blood and guts stuff is what gives me bad nightmares.

Oh okay.

And even though their is not much blood and guts other than things like that, it does deal with themes of rape, if that is okay.

Okay, hope you like it.

Dracula (1931) and (1958)
Frankenstein (1931)
Nosferatu (1922)
The Witches (1966)
The Reptile (1966)
The Plague Of The Zombies (1966)
Interview With The Vampire (1994) They kill a rat, but other than that I don't think there anything.
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956)
Cat People (1942)
House of Wax (1956)
The Haunting (1963)
Black Sunday(1960)
The Innocents (1961)

I took some time to organize this, I hope it helps. I've seen all of these films and liked them all! You and I seem to have similar taste, so there's nothing super gory here.
