van going through radiation zone?

The only part I remember about this movie is where the main characters are in a van going through a high radiation area in a desert type landscape and they pull down all these blinds and hatches on the van so it's completely blacked out and there is all these weird colours floating in the air... and noise I think caused by the radiation which is quite uncomfortable but doesn't kill anybody, they come out the other side okay, it is a post apocalyptic movie, at the start they are in some kind of commune and a lot of it is underground.

How old is the movie? Are they regular vans or much larger, rvs. I ask because if it's 50 years old, could it be DamnationAlley.?

No but I couldn't be sure at the start but it was off a better quality (not much better) and I would guess early to mid- 80s and it was more of a transit van but it was very similar to this in a way.

the colours were inside the van, not outside.

Could it be Neon City (1991)?
