I am so happy that True Grit & The King's Speech have made as much as they have. I can't see a sequel for The Green Hornet. The Eagle i am dissapointed in. Kevin McDonald is a good director and i am rooting for my fellow scottish director, but for some feeling, i am not feeling it for The Eagle.

Not surprised by the number 1 and 2 spots but surprised at how much G&J made despite the fact it looks utter crap.

I'm with you: it seems like critically-acclaimed films are making more, at least once they've achieved this kind of recognition. Maybe I'm engaging in some unconscious selection bias, but it seems that way. Scorsese and the Coens and the like seem to be making more profitable films than ever, and I'm guessing (though I haven't checked) that this would hold even after inflation is taken into account.

i reckon Never Say Never will get big gross as well. Say what you want about Bieber, but his legions of followers will see this regardless of where they are.

Maybe, but I think that opening weekend gross will end up being over half of its total domestic take (whereas, for most major releases, it ends up being about a third). Very, very front-loaded, I'm guessing.

It will die down eventually. Unless Bieber fans will flock to I Am Number Four, the new attempt to launch a Twilight like series. Only this one looks actually quite interesting.

I saw the tv trailer for the Justin Beiber film today. At one point a caption appears which says something like "This film contains no offensive material." I have to say, I beg to differ, everything I saw on the screen offended me.

On the topic of Beiber this is him and his dad. It turns out Beiber's dad who just so happens to be a crackhead is also a rapper. He has asked his son to get him a record deal with Usher. Beiber says he gets all his musical talents from his father thus he will be the next big thing. Looks like another KFed IMO.

I actually think Gnomeo & Juliet looks like a good family movie (there's been a long line of those recently, and they all seem to be making money - a trend I hope continues). A friend took the kids to see it last night while my wife and I celebrated Valentine's Day. The kids absolutely loved it.

hope it does do good business, because then it will prove that you need to get a job with Pixar, Dreamworks or Blue Sky Studios in a big to get your ideas for great animation flicks on screen.

Glory be to God that "127 Hours" was playing at my nearby theater. The releases this week were so droll and one can only see "True Grit" so many times.
