A Serbian Film

Kill Bill: Vol 2? Recently re-watched both of them. Don’t recall anything traumatic.
Yes. Just the eye. Elle Driver’s eye. I adore both and think they’re perfect, but boy, that messed me up for a bit.

The eye almost got the movie an NC-17 rating. That's why that part of the movie suddenly goes black-and-white, to ensure that it didn't get higher than R.

Milos doesn’t look very “happy” to me from the onset. Money worries. There’s no “might have a history in porn”. Milos was a famous porn star known for his ability to have an erection-at-will & being able to sustain it. (It’s thrown in that he has a university degree if that makes him more presentable.)
Not sure that he turns into “an entirely different person”. I think the bad things he did were always part of him (he even slapped his wife before he went to work for Vukmir).
You're right, there were more problems than I remembered. I would still argue he turns into a different person however. While there may be some aggression hidden inside I find it hard to believe he would ever agree to any of the horrific acts we see if he wasn't manipulated and drugged by Vukmir to a crazy degree.

As for the counseling, it can be argued that what he did at the end and all the earlier rapes and murders were just too much to handle. Should the whole family have killed themselves? Of course not, but we also find out Vukmir's associates would have come after them either way, as we see them preparing to film a necrophilia porno at the end. It would take more than just counseling, they'd have to go into hiding possibly forever.

Decided to re-watch Salo, a movie I barely remember. Annoyed there’s nowhere to stream the darn thing. Was sure I own it, but I don’t. Must have borrowed it from the library.

Amazon has many DVDs of this movie, which surprised me considering people are buying fewer DVDs these days. I suppose I could buy it though I am running out of space for my collection.

And here’s a thread for it. https://www.movieforums.com/communit...highlight=Salo
Figured out - duh - I watched it 11 years ago on Netflix dvd. (My how time flies.) I’ve moved it to #1 in my Q, but there is “a long wait”. No surprise there.

The “whole family” didn’t kill themselves. It was a murder/suicide thanks to Milos.

You make good points though.

That’s a much harder question to answer. I think it’s safe to say that like @cricket, I just wouldn’t put extreme horror in that category. But I’d say Bergman, Buñuel etc is the immediate mental association I get.
In the 5 years I’ve been here, have I ever mentioned Buñuel? Possibly though I’ve seen 2 of his movies at most. If people actually looked at the movies I have actually seen, they would know me better since my tastes are wide-ranging.

Speaking of “horror”, there’s loads in Bergman movies. Let’s see: rape, incest, sexual assault, masturbation, adultery. I may have missed some. There may be some fornication in there too.

Do not get annoyed at me, Stirchley, I’ve been in a car crash, literally don’t feel like I know what planet I’m on, and am on my way to check myself over at the doctor’s yet again. If Buñuel doesn’t float your boat, that’s totally fine, my mistake. I try not to question people’s preferences; ultimately we never know and so on and so worth, my relativism knows no bounds, so no problem.

I’m probably spending all my time here in the next few days as at work I confuse clients, days of the week and even what year it is.

The Bib-iest of Nickels
I was disappointed with A Serbian Film.

Let me explain - one of my closest friends always recommended it. He is a horror buff in the same way I am and, generally speaking, we aren't very phased by anything at all. He wasn't phased with this film either, but his sentiment was, "It's a legitimately good film."

What is offensive in A Serbian Film is largely shock jock stuff, the type of thing you might see on an animated show on Adult Swim (obviously, in live-action, framed in a darker context).

It's a largely basic film with decent (but, not great acting) acting, alright cinematography, and a particularly graphic, extreme subject-matter. It isn't particularly profound or thoughtful in what it is trying to say at all.

Just my opinion.

I didn't even make it to the obscene parts. What made me quit is the dialogue. Appallingly stilted.

Haha.

Lowkey, for some reason, my favorite aspect of the entire film was when Milo started to "train". And, it had the camera situated to where it was like .... from his penis' perspective, and it showed it slowly go from being pointed at the floor to pointed to the ceiling.
