Woody Allen is a pedophille

sci·ence fic·tion
noun
fiction based on imagined future scientific or technological advances and major social or environmental changes, frequently portraying space or time travel and life on other planets.
Sci-Fi is probably the most unique and transformable film genre. Science Fiction can be used for comedy, drama, horror, and even visceral political commentary. Some science fiction isn't even viewed as fiction anymore. Sci-Fi is used as a tool to escape from our current world, and based on how the world is now, I think we could all use some escaping. Science fiction has defined many of our childhoods, and it continues to be a big part of our lives today. So let's take this time to acknowledge our favorite films from this incredibly expansive genre.

1. The list deadline will be FEBRUARY 10TH this gives you four months to watch all of the Sci-Fi Movies you want. If enough people want more time, I can extend the deadline.

2. To send my your list PM it to me with the title "Username's" Sci-Fi List. (For example: Nope1172's Sci-Fi List.) This list needs to include your 25 favorite Sci-Fi Films labeled 1-25.

3. No changes can be made after a list is sent, so please make sure that you are happy with your choices before sending a list.

4. Partial lists will only be accepted after January 31st.

5. If you publicly share your list before the given due date, you will be disqualified.

6. Your account must be at least one month old in order to submit a list.

7. Please specify the year each movie on your list was released.

What Counts as Sci-Fi?

There have been lots of questions about what constitutes as Science Fiction, and here are the rules that I have come up with. Every movie tagged as Sci-Fi by IMDb will be by default acceptable for the countdown:

However, if there is a film that is not tagged as Sci-Fi by IMDb, but you believe it should be included, you can suggest the movie in the thread, and everyone can decide whether or not it should be considered. For example, I believe that the film Ghostbusters (1984) should qualify as a Sci-Fi film, but it is not tagged as one by IMDb. In the thread we can decide whether or not it should be considered Science Fiction. If for any reason there is a split decision, I will give the final say. The entire list of exceptions to the IMDb rule will be listed two posts below.

Let's get watching!

We discovered that if you scroll down below the cast on a movie it lists more than 3 genres a film counts in, so do the ones that have say 5 genres one of them being Sci-Fi count? For instance WALL-E is Animation, Adventure, Family, but if you scroll below cast it expands it to include Sci-Fi. - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0910970/

I doubt any superhero movies will make my list tbh.
I'm going solid Sci-Fi with this one.

I already got one list done... and now the Sci-Fi Recs in the other thread are making me put together a 2nd list as well.

Sci-Fi is totally my bag... I may end up, for the first time in my history on MoFo, being the very last person to submit a list.

I wasn't looking forward to this list at first, because I do not consider myself a fan of Sci-Fi but last night I was having a look and discovered quite a few movies that I'd never really thought of as Science Fiction but actually do qualify.

There are a couple of films not tagged as Sci-Fi by IMDb that I want to put up for consideration though:

The Incredibles

When I was looking through IMDb's top rated Sci-Fi list, I saw superhero movie after superhero movie, yet when I checked this movie I found that it was not classified as Sci-Fi despite also being a superhero movie.

Edward Scissorhands

This one really straddles the line between Sci-Fi and Fantasy, but ultimately it's about a person who was created by an inventor - not unlike Frankenstein which is classified as Sci-Fi. Edward Scissorhands also appears on the OFC's Top 100 Sci-Fi Films list, which is already in the Lists section of the forum.

I'm fine with both of them being vetoed despite The Incredibles most likely being a lock for my list. Don't understand why stuff like Superman or Fantastic 4 is counted as Sci-Fi on IMDB yet The Incredibles isn't though.

Superman is an alien from Krypton... by the look of it, anything involving aliens is classed as Sci-Fi on IMDb.
