Plagiarism - "Cut & Paste" Style
Making sure the offender is aware of the seriousness of the issue is key. Also, making sure the plagerized material is given proper credit is important. What bothers me is, even when the post has been edited after the fact, it leaves a wake of replies that were based on false assumptions.
My suggestion would be a warning in the post in question, plus a PM from the admin or moderator who notices it first. Second offence is a temporary 30 day ban and the third a permanent one.

I think people plagiarize for a few reasons.
Laziness, it's a lot easier to steal others material than come up with it on your own.
Intimidation, some of you are very good at putting your thoughts together on the computer. If you feel you can't compete, you may look for an edge.
Poor writing skills(me), I can barely put whole sentences together, let alone paragraphs.
I'm just a blue-collar guy who loves movies.
I haven't had to use writing skills for twenty years.
If I just stole an article, I wouldn't have to look up the words or use easier spelled words.
