Can You Ever Forgive Me?

Had a double feature of Pupi Avati today. I don't think I've seen any of his films before but will definitely try to see more after these.

Zeder (1983)

Used typewriter leads a young writer towards the secrets of immortality.

The House with Laughing Windows (1976)

A restorer gets a job in small village to restore a fresco made by a local, now deceased, artist. Bleak and spooky giallo that's right up there with the likes of Don't Torture a Duckling and Deep Red.

I won't dance. Don't ask me...
I got the impression that Szukalski has somehow been cheated by Polish art historians. He was born in Warta, Poland in 1893, and made several trips back and forth to the U.S.

In 1936 he was declared by the Polish government to be its greatest living artist. He escaped during the Siege of Warsaw, and eventually settled in the U.S. All his unsold works had been destroyed in the bombing.

Anyway, I think you'd enjoy the film if you get a chance to see it. Yes, he was highly opinionated. His sculptures are breathtaking.

Hm. I think he and his art were controversial. I read somewhere that even father Leonardo DiCaprio confirm, that he was fooled. I'm not expert in art, so I can share only my subjective opinion - I'm not impressed.
I didn't see this movie yet.

1st Re-watch...This lavish HBO movie still works thanks to incredible production values, detailed direction by Steven Soderbergh, and the incredible performances by Michael Douglas and Matt Damon.

Weird is relative.

Whoa, the rare 4-star rating from pahaK! You got my attention there, I've now added this to my watchlist.

7/10. Tremendous performances but too much time spent on unnecessary, non-character stuff
First time I ever saw a negative comment about Midnight Cowboy, an American classic.

Ansikte mot ansikte6/10.
Great movie.

I thought it was very good.

Hi, Mom! - 6/10
Some funny moments. I think there was only about a 5-10 year period of film satire in the US that is worth watching, but I'm still looking.

Which years would those be?

Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)

I understand the critic complaints, because there were a couple noticeable flaws in camera work. However, the movie was entertaining as hell and I thought it did a good job of storytelling.

7.5/10. Best Spider-man movie ever? Quite liked the concept, the story telling. I will say that this is going to win the animated feature, although I do have a soft spot for Ralph 2. It will be out of the two I guess.

THE FLORIDA PROJECT (2017) SEAN BAKER

Instagram actress, some great kids working/playing with the green goblin, my latest favorite actor Willem Dafoe.
I believe many people saw themselves in this movie. Liked very much.

GRIZZLY MAN (2005) WERNER HERZOG

Timothy Treadwell, a activist that fond in grizzly bears a cure to alcoholism... there short and sweet. This was my introduction to Werner Herzog docs, and I liked how he made me empathize with Timothy in the beginning, and give me the other side of the coin near the end. All levels perfectly made.

WHEEL OF TIME (2003) WERNER HERZOG

Werner Herzog take us to a Buddhist initiation ceremony in India. With photography he showed religion, poverty, pain, fanaticism, but mostly hope. Herzog written all over it.

ENCOUNTERS AT THE END OF THE WORLD (2007) WERNER HERZOG

Herzog started by saying he was not going to film pinguins, and this was not National Geographic, that I can tell you. Once again he showed like it is, beautiful landscapes, ugly dirt mess in McMurdo research station, where very interesting people worked/lived, from a woman IT specialist who once traveled to South America in a sewage pipe, researchers who badly (very badly) play electric guitars to celebrate discovering new species of aquatic life, a maintenance man who survived war and hunger that he couldn't find word to talk about, or a pinging specialist who doesn't like to talk with humans.

Its was really valuable. thanks a lot.
