The Most Popular Movie of All-Time?

Tools

Well, maybe in India Titanic is more famous. But in the Western World, Star Wars is the most famous (in Japan I think that Star Wars is not that popular, some movies like E.T. sold more tickets than Star Wars did).

How would Star Wars stack up against the Lord of the Rings movies in terms of cultural impact? Pretty much any work of fantasy draws inspiration from LOTR in some way or other and SW is arguably a fantasy series as much as it is sci-fi. Although, since we're talking about movies and not the source material it would probably be Star Wars.

I saw a lot of talk about Titanic and Star Wars on the first page but the funny thing is I've never seen either of the two. But based on popularity I'd believe Star Wars is the most popular movie of all time.

On the outside looking in.
Dollars don't lie - it's AVATAR, a movie I saw once and never need to see again.
