I'm watching it now. I bought it digitally for 9.99. I'm an hour and 24 minutes into it and it isn't very exciting or entertaining so far.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga
I might finally watch this soon. I rewatched Mad Max: Fury Road recently, realized I'd somehow never seen it a second time.

Why is this so long, yet it feels like not much has happened?
It's just a simple revenge story, you can do that in 90 minutes
I finally finished it. It's too long and not entertaining enough. Surprisingly dull at times. Performances are alright. A coupe fun moments, but not enough. 5/10 is my rating. This wouldn't even make my top 50 of the year.

Mad Max is about world-building more than anything, so therein lies the special trait that keeps the series enjoyable. If the characters get invested in that world, it's easier to enjoy the movie as more than a clever action flick with a storyboard or two. Everything else does help when done right, but it's unfair to criticize the movie for being a "simple revenge story" when there are hundreds of movies that follow more generic takes on revenge stories. I must've seen 30 B-movies about a man taking revenge on some criminal for killing a family member or members.

For anybody that didn’t get any, I’ve got plenty of the Kool-Aid to share. It’s always made with 2 packets!

Agree re: world-building. The little allusions to communities you never see (like the guys on stilts in the foreground in one of the shots from Fury Road), the way it drops you into an entire subculture and lets you glean their customs on the fly, is what draws people in.

Can we agree that part of this film’s turnout had to be a result of the Fury Road production? Either Miller has slowed down a bit or the studio was not letting it happen again, like that. For all the good and bad, I think that environment seeps into the movie and leads to the indescribable “movie magic”.
Fury Road was such a lightning in a bottle moment that may never happen again.

That's not the plot of this movie, but okay.
WARNING: "less meaning in actual plot" spoilers below
Well, I was close. The line in Fury Road when she screams in fury "remember me?!" to Immortan Joe packs less meaning now that Immortan Joe wasn't the one responsible for Furiosa losing her hand (nor did he take her from her from her home, the Green Place).

This was wrong.
> that's how she lost her hand,
This was wrong.
> she eventually regained Joe's respect
This was wrong.
> he made her essentially the general of his army.

Did you just assume that it has meaning that would be revealed in a prequel?
Did you just assume that by losing her artificial arm to rip his mask off that her lack of an arm was therefor somehow caused by him?
There really wasn't more meaning to be lost, she says "remember me" because this world establishes a belief in Valhalla. Just sacrificing her artificial arm in literally no way implies that he originally cost her her arm, although it would add narrative weight to the moment.
It doesn't make sense to assume narrative weight where none exists and then be disappointed, and say that narrative weight was lost, when your headcanon is undermined by the actual canon.

Did you really need a prequel for that?

Yes, I know I was wrong about the hand. But that would have been a better scenario. When Furiosa cries "Remember me?!"to Immortan Joe in Fury Road, it's different than how the War Boys cried it. The War Boys didn't ask a question - they made a statement: "Remember me." When Furiosa asks her question, she emphasizes "me", suggesting there's something going on between her and Immortan Joe. It suggests Joe did something particularly bad and personal to Furiosa.
I never said Fury Road needed a prequel. Would the prequel have been slightly better if Immortan Joe had been the one who took Furiosa from her home, and taken her arm? Yes.

They yell "Witness me!"
