The only thing that was unstoppable in this movie was Tony Scott's camera on wheels, holy cow just sit still already and film a scene.

is there really any need for a whole thread for these, you can post them in someone else's thread on these films yanno.

Unstoppable ( 2010 )

Saw yesterday on DVD /large sized HD TV combination and it looked as good as theater .

And I quite liked the movie .

Photography and camerawork is as it should be---shows the runaway train from all angles all the time , that is why the camera never stops swinging .

Have been fascinated by railways all my life---I prefer to travel on rail if possible . And a driverless train rampaging through the countryside looks majestic , just majestic !! Smashing through vehicles parked on the rail line by mistake , hitting other trains with awesome power and sound , brutally pushing through towns full of cowering people putting fear in their veins , igniting splinters of fire on the rail track when overheating on speed , sending helicopters of news channels flying after it trying to cover it on film and still outrunning them , putting the railway management headquarters in a tizzy with it's unstoppable march , and giving us some sound entertainment....!!

And Denzel Washington and Chris Pine are the ones who take upon themselves the task of stopping the unstoppable---but not before it has done a lot of damage already....
They have their own stories---of Denzel's wife dying of cancer 4 years before leaving him with lovely daughters ( they were looking hot in tight tops and red shorts ) , and Chris' beautiful blonde blue eyed wife and son leaving him....and those stories come tumbling out in front of each other as they embark on their mission....

And the mission---it is to take their railway engine to towards the rampaging driverless train and attach it from behind while both are at full speed , and then try to apply the brakes on their own engine so that the attached runaway train grinds to a halt . But attaching their engine manually to the runaway train is a life threatening task in itself , and the engine of the runaway train is more powerful than their own engine---so stopping it is not easy....

But who goes to the movies to see easy things being done ??!!
We want to see larger than life people doing larger than life things in movies and we get to see that in this film !!

So can the unstoppable train be stopped ?? Or does it derail somewhere causing a massive explosion ???---for it contains some highly explosive material , conveniently put in some of it's bogies to keep our blood pressure high ( and entertainment quotient even higher ) by the director . Do watch the movie for the answers....

The panic in the railway control room , the anguish felt when destruction is occurring , the cheers and exhilaration when the heroes are attempting their rescue---all is well pictured . Acting is okay , by everyone .

Verdict---Good .

I enjoyed Unstoppable as well. I like quite a few Tony Scott thrillers that others think are bunk. Nice review Ashdoc.

Unstoppable

Despite the film being clichéd to the teeth and having characters that no one could give a damn about, the film will most likely win you over. Tony Scott and Denzel Washington team up yet again in this nail bitter of a thriller that has Washington and Chris Pine doing their best to try and stop an unmanned runaway train. The bigger problem is that the train has some explosive chemicals on it that could level a city or two.

The film is loosely based on real events (aren't they all). Washington plays the old timer who is being forced into retirement to make way for some new blood, new blood like Chris Pine. So already we have some character friction between the two main leads. Cookie-cutter stuff to be honest. They both have their own personal problems, Denzel hasn't been the best father and his daughters don't seem to really care for him. Pine has his wife/girlfriend serving him with a restraining order, to stay away from her and their kid. He's not that bad of a guy, it was just a misunderstanding.

Pine and Washington have some casual banter between the two, bickering at each other here and there, it's all comical for the audience. Meanwhile a train gets loose due to human error. Basically there are two dumbwits who let it go. Despite the train being on a single set of tracks, it manages to cause quite a bit of damage.

Scott employs his usual directing style here, quick zooms onto character faces during basic conversations to somehow make a simple scene seem more energetic. It's not as irksome as in Domino and it actually seems to work for the film. The real stars of the film are the stunt and pyrotechnic team, both working together to create some real entertaining moments in an exciting film.

You'll know how the film ends and you'll know that this one event somehow makes years of problems go away from these two characters. Everyone loves a hero right? So their family problems will be solved, any job problems will be solved and everyone will be happy, if they stop the train that is. The movie is more fun than you'd expect, it''s competently done and has more positives than negatives. I can easily recommend Unstoppable for those looking for some nice escapism.
