At first I thought I don't like musicals, but them, I like these:

HARD DAY'S NIGHT
CHICAGO
WIZARD OF OZ
CABARET
GREASE
MOULIN ROUGE
ANY MUSICAL WITH SHIRLY TEMPLE

My all time fav, very corney, STRICTLY BALLROOM I know not really a musical, no singing but lots of Dancing.

Nightmare Before Christmas, along with the afore mentioned South Park. And A Muppet Chrismas Carol, if that counts.

In some very vague order that should probably be taken with a gran of salt [with the exception of number one, and perhaps numbers two and three]:

Singin' in the Rain (1952)
West Side Story (1961)
The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)
The Sound of Music (1965)
Top Hat (1935)
Moulin Rouge (2001)
Chicago (2002)

And Dancer in the Dark (2000) too.

First time I saw Chicago I was just amazed to see such a good musical. The movie has a great cast. I give the film a good ****/****

As you can see, I am a very forgetful person. Chicago was excellent.

I'd watch it, but I've lost all interst in Richard Gere since Mothman Prophecies.

Put me in your pocket...
This is probably a dead horse, but since TCM is running musicals on Tuesdays and Wednesdays this month, I thought I'd bump this up. They are also running an interesting short piece about the stars of the musicals inbetween some of the films.

I need to put my 10-20 list up.

Godspell was indeed adapted to film, in 1973, with Victor Garber ("Alias") as Jesus. It was directed by David Green, who has worked almost exclusively in television since, from good projects like "Fatal Vision" (1984) to the dreadfully forgettable ("Bella Mafia").

No *****.

Into the Woods
I was in that play in high school. I was the Baker's wife. It was mortifying because I can't sing but they ran out of students that could sing and act.
That would make a great movie. My mind is racing with the cast list...

I guess I was in denial.

2wrongs... I did back-to-back productions of Into the Woods... Once as Florinda and once as the Witch. It's such a fun show! I think the second act could use a little reworking, but it could make a great movie.

I totally coveted the part of the Witch. I didn't get it.
I would like to see Tim Burton direct.

I saw the original production on Broadway, with the ever-lovely and uber-talented Ms. Bernadette Peters as The Witch. Amazing. Saw her (and Mandy Patinkin) in Sunday in the Park with George too. I will always be madly in love with that woman.

Mandy Patinkin. I wish he would do more movies. I thinks he's swell.

Ooh, that would add a layer!

Holden, I've seen video of that production. Am also a Bernadette Peters fan. She has "that certain something" by the 5 gallon drum, and a wonderful voice. I've never seen Sunday in the Park with George but have sung things from it. Singing "Sunday" is a religious experience.
