I have to say agree with some of the folks here, and say Hannibal Lecter from The Silence of the Lambs. Such a compelling performance from Hopkins and he doesn't even have the lion's share of screen time in the film. To me, that says a lot...that when the character's not on-screen and you're still thinking about him. And whenever the film's on cable, I'll get caught up in it and Hopkins again.
As far as Reverend Kane, I still get a kick out of him and whenever I go to a relative's house, I'll quote his "Let me in!" in his voice.
