Movie with silent type who kills everyone unexpectedly

I am looking for the title of a movie about a silent type that seems to take everything from everyone. But in the end he unexpectedly kills all the bad guys. Unexpected plot. I believe he has a dog. Your description is pretty vague but The Drop (2014) fits. Starring Tom Hardy, James Gandolfini, Matthias Schoenaerts, John Ortiz, Chris Sullivan, Ann Dowd, and Noomi Rapace. Hardy's character isn't a "silent type" exactly but underestimated as dim or slow.
