Where is that casino, DD?
Western NC mountains, between Asheville and the TN border.

I use to go to local tournaments up until about 10 years ago I think? Won twice. I’m not the greatest, but it’s pretty easy to figure out betting habits with some people. And then there are the ones who will make wild calls with lawful odds to win the hand.
And then they pull it out and they act like they made the greatest call ever.
Man, those were fun times.
Don’t know if I’ll play live tournaments, but I was all about online tournaments during the poker boom.*

I’ve definitely decided to put the golf clubs down and focus on this for a while. I’m not good, but I’ve played 3 live sessions and broke even.

I think the $1/3 is definitely beatable, it’s just a matter of if my bankroll holds out. Betting/gambling doesn’t appeal to me, but poker is fascinating 🤩

Today’s trip was unsuccessful. Death by a thousand cuts. Only made 1 big mistake. My pkt QQ vs another guy’s KK. No overs on the flop, yadada.

Just a day of never making hands when people don’t fold any pair.

Gonna stop for a while. Played well yesterday and just got unlucky. I didn’t start with a $6k bankroll, which is what a standard $1/3 strategy would require. Hard to fade luck with essentially a 3 buyin bankroll.

Looking to get back in by the end of the year when Danville opens up. The 1 hour drive will be a lot better than 6 hours in a car just to play.

Last two weekends have been good. Essentially two double-ups. Game selection is a golden rule and becoming more and more apparent. You don’t have to be a good player, just better than the player you’re in a hand with. Feels like a lot of people come to dust-off money at $1/3. Last week was the first time the sportsbook was jumping (college football) and it is right next to the poker room. A lot of players seemed more interested in the games and cashing a ticket, than paying attention to the cards.

Last week was a complete meltdown. Anytime you are at a table with a guy wearing a cayman head as a necklace, with a pyramid of chips…remember that table selection is a priority. Dusted two buyins getting beat by “one hand better”.

This week was better. Even though I didn’t participate, all of NC was lined up to buy sticky on the reservation. As far as card playing…When you raise, call the rr from AA w/ AQ and the flop come KTJ 👀

Bet 1/3 pot, AA rr to 4xs, you rr allin, they snap call…Somebody needed more than one rack when they left the table today. All on a bankroll from vacation money.

Have never played, and don't know anything about it. When they have poker scenes in movies, and show the cards, I never know what the hell it all means. I suppose the picture ones are better to have than the number ones, or something.

Poker is easy! Or is it?

I was never any good at it. I was good at a game called Auction or 120s which I played as a kid and young man.
When I was in high school as seniors some of us got to school almost an hour before it started because of the bus schedules. So we would set in the cafeteria playing a poker type game called Guts, replayed for good money too. It was played with two cards dealt down to each player with an ante say like a dollar, no wildcards. On a one, two, three count everybody held their card in one had horizontally to the table and at three anyone he did not drop their cards was in. All the losers who staid in had to match the dollar amount on the table. Anybody play that?
