Watching Movies Alone with crumbsroom

This is the closest Resnais has gotten to working for me, but I find he usually has a disconnect between the proceedings and the mood.

As far as Robbe Grillet goes, I preferred Successive Slidings of Pleasure, but I won't pretend factors other than craftsmanship didn't play a role. Definitely a Rock movie.

Provided you've seen them, what were your thoughts on Hiroshima Mon Amour and Night and Fog?

I was fairly lukewarm on Last Year At Marienbad as well.

Haven't seen Night and Fog. I shrugged through Hiroshima Mon Amour when I watched it for the RT Film Club a few years ago. Had the same experience with Muriel. I feel like he makes points intellectually, and I appreciate the emotional disconnect is intentional, but I also remain unmoved. Marienbad at least seems more concerned with atmosphere, making it an easier viewing.

I wasn't as bothered with that as much as you were, but I get that. As for Night and Fog, it's certainly a hard watch, but if you're up for it, I definitely recommend watching it. It's probably my favorite of his films.

It looks like Jinnistan is permanently banned, if I'm correct. If he isn't coming back here, does anyone know if he has a Letterboxd or something else to keep in touch with him?

(apologies in advance if we're not allowed to discuss this in public)

Totally fine, particularly since you're trying to find something out rather than just gossip, or whatever.

And a reminder that it's fine to ask and question (particularly privately, since there's no shame/pile on issue there) about any decision, anyway.

Not as far as I remember, no...

No, I'm pretty sure he doesn't have many other social media attachments. I have some contact with him if you ever want to shoot him a message though.

Could you share it with me, perhaps (either via dms or in this thread)? I don't check my emails much (outside of my school email), if that's what you're referring to, but I might as well save it anyways.

Anyway, if this truly is the last we'll ever see of Jinn here, let's at least try to remember the good times we had with him: https://www.movieforums.com/communit...39#post2179339

Seeing that RLM has done a review of a horror movie I've never heard of, I'm currently watching Blood Beat (so that I can watch the review). Watching, it has slowly dawned on me that someone (I believe Capt Terror) recommended this to me a couple of years ago. If this is true, well played sir. Well played. This couldn't be more my kinda jam if it tried (and if it tried, I would of course hate it).

Perfection. My mind perfectly melted. And there is still half an hour.

Victim of The Night
It's funny, this film has been in my queue for some time but I just haven't been able to pull the trigger due to my concern that it might just be pointless soft-porn.

There was that one time he waved at me in a crowd. Stared right at me, for only a brief moment...but to me, an eternity...swoon

Is that from a movie or something?

I mean, it probably qualifies as soft porn (which I don't have a problem with, personally), but it's also too weird and catered towards Robbe-Grillet's specific proclivities and has too much going on aesthetically to write off as pointless. It is very pointful.

Yes! I watched it last year, but it appears that was pre-MoFo so my enthusiastic review has been lost.
But yeah, Blood Beat is one of those rare films that just exists in its own world. That world being Samurai-infested Wisconsin.

It's on Tubi, everybody! Watch Blood Beat.
