I'd love to participate in this, but not with with two list obscurity. I say leave it to the voters discretion

@Iroquois,

As other people have said, I'm not happy about the idea of sending in two lists, but I'd like to participate in this and send in only one list. I'm using a list of "Most Popular "Title Directed By Female" Titles" on IMDB as a guide, as well as a few Letterbox links that (I think) Camo posted. Any movies from those lists will be eligible for my personal list.

If this is a problem, let me know.

[mention=5904]as well as a few Letterbox links that (I think) Camo posted.
You've probably noticed but just incase there's a dropdown in that list where you can sort it by various things: popularity, average rating, release date, etc. The default layout is sorted by poster colour i believe like Cosmic pointed out and it has over 3000 films so can be hard to navigate.

Here it is by average letterboxd rating - https://letterboxd.com/michaelhaneke/list/films-directed-by-women/by/rating/

And popularity - https://letterboxd.com/michaelhaneke/list/films-directed-by-women/by/popular/

I've seen 110 apparently. I have an unranked list of 33 films i'd be happy voting for right now.

On the two lists thing, unless people are keeping quiet about it i don't think anyone is going to send two. So it should probably just be up to the voter whether they include trans/co-directed or not. Up to Iro though.

Thanks for the info about sorting the list. I noticed that the posters seemed to all be similar colors, and I saw the options to resort it, but I'm going through the whole list a few pages at a time, and keeping a watchlist of all of the movies that sound interesting. I already have about 100 movies on my watchlist for this countdown, and about another 30ish movies that I've seen that are being considered for my list.

BTW, the IMDB list has over 5000 movies listed, but I'm nowhere near finished going through that list, so I don't know what the extra 2000 movies are that aren't on the Letterbox list.

The movies that I highlighted in RED are movies that I've already seen. (Mamma Mia! (2008), You've Got Mail (1998), Sleepless in Seattle (1993), and Real Genius (1985) are almost guaranteed to make my list.)

The movies that I highlighted in BLUE are movies that are on my watchlist.

BTW, Big (1988) and A League of Their Own (1992) are on your list twice.

Surprised that you're watching The Hurt Locker gbg. It's not really graphic or anything but it is about a bomb disposal unit so i didn't expect you to want to see it.

I doubt The Hurt Locker will make my list because it probably isn't my type of movie, but I know that it's gotten a lot of good reviews, and a couple of people have told me to give it a chance, so I thought this would give me a good reason to watch it. Maybe it will even surprise me and make my list.

Welcome to the human race...
Screw it, I've decided to do female-only votes. You can offer up mixed-gender movies as honourable mentions in this thread, but I'm just going to make a snap judgment on this one (and yes, this means that directing teams consisting solely of women are eligible - so yeah, you can still vote for The Matrix).

I'm thinking of pushing back the deadline a bit by a month max, but we'll see what other people have to say about that.

Glad you made a decision. Just checked and that takes me from 33 would voters to 29, so not much difference. I think two of those: Persepolis and City of God would have definitely made the countdown if they counted and the other two: Hearts of Darkness and Gimme Shelter were strong possibilities. Also Gimme Shelter wouldn't have made my list at this point, it was in the running early on but fell a fair amount.

I'm going to send mine before the end of March either way as i want to get back to the 30's. IMO it would be a good idea waiting until March to decide this, see how things are looking then.

K, strictly no men involved - I can manage that. Thanks for making a decision.

Ugh, what about a movie directed by a woman, and an uncredited man?
Which movie is that? Or are you just making sure? I can't think of any with an uncredited man. Think Loveleen Tandan should be co-credited for Slumdog Millionaire but i can't think of the opposite.

Humanoids from the Deep

Humanoids from the Deep
Holy crap:

Second unit director James Sbardellati, who later directed Deathstalker, was hired to enliven the film; he filmed explicit scenes in which the humanoids rape women. These changes were not communicated to most of the people who had made the film with the working title Beneath the Darkness; several of them expressed shock and anger at the released film, its changed title, and the nudity and sexual exploitation. After Peeters and Turkel saw the additional sequences, they asked for their names to be removed from the film but were refused. Turkel appeared on television talk shows and castigated Corman for his actions.
Sbardellati sounds like he was including rape in this film at all costs. Also like that enliven = rape.

It's great and was my nomination for the B Movie Hall of Fame.
