This is the first I've heard of this. Sad to hear. I really liked his films Head, Five Easy Pieces, and Black Widow. I need to see a few others of his. But he was definitely a talented guy. Godspeed, Bob.

A real guiding light in the American New Wave, still arguably the most prolifically amazing film movement in the history of cinema. Many of his films may not have been the absolute trailblazers, but they embodied the spirit as good as anyone elses.

Definitely did some interesting work...LOVED Five Easy Pieces and the performance he pulls out of Jessica Lange in the remake of The Postman Always Rings Twice is something to marvel. Head is a real head scratcher but it definitely scores points for originality. Another unique voice in cinema silenced. RIP
