Hmmm, I just noticed his comparison of Kitano to Chaplin.
it's a good comparison. You only have to see some of Kitano's films like Getting Any with it's madcap sight gags and slapstick, also those later ones Takeshis and Kantoko Banzai! and that's besides Takeshi's Castle. Even amongst the violence in some of his other films there's humour - look at the funny scenes on the sand in Sonatine. Kikujiro also is very funny with scenes that're pure silent movie comedy comparable - you hardly need subtitles with that one.
