How do you buy a movie that is the cinema version?

I bought "Far From the Madding Crowd", 2015, and some of the scenes seemed different. How can you determine before purchase is the version is the same as shown in theaters?

If it says "theatrical version," then, you can expect the same film submitted to the MPAA and shown in theaters. There's also "Unrated" versions, "Director's Cuts," and "Extended Editions" that can change what you see with your purchase.
