I don't know how many oldtime radio show fans are on this forum, but I just recently heard an episode of "Truth or Consequences" in which host Ralph Edwards (of "This is Your Life" fame) and company surprised Hubert C. Smith, a paralyzed sailor in a military hospital (following his discharge during WWII) with a "visit" to his hometown via several live remotes in which family, friends and acquaintances spoke briefly to him. It was quite a touching broadcast and I wondered if it was real. I found the news story below, which confirmed it was.
