_____ is the most important thing in my life…
Only a week away. I wanted to see if anyone wanted to venture any prognostications?

1. What do you think the opening weekend take will be?

2. What do you imagine the end credit scene(s) will feature?

$72 mil keeps ringing in my ears. I know it seems high for an unproven entity, but the way the marketing has ramped up and by early reviews, this is my number.

I can't quite decide on the end credits. I want to say it has to be Thanos (I don't think he will appear in this film) or some sort of Tony Stark at his work bench vignette to lead in to Age of Ultron.

_____ is the most important thing in my life…
O_o

I get it. All the 80's refs, so I suppose the Collector had some reason. If you didn't know, that's not instantly recognizable as that character. It seems like it is more faithful to the comic design, instead of the movie.

I hope there is something more to this, throw away end-credit scenes are a bummer.

Not much lol. You can actually watch it here. It's cool to see though, but it's nothing really that amazing enough to sit through an entire credit sequence for.

Yea so this movie was a whole hell of a lot of fun.

101 Favorite Movies (2019)

I'll probably watch this sometime this or next week. My expectations are that it will be about as entertaining as X-Men: Days of Future Past, and Edge of Tomorrow. If it's as bad as Avengers though, I'm going to be mad. But the trailer suggests it will actually be somewhat entertaining.

I'll be catching this next week sometime. It's supposed to be the best Marvel movie EVER, and I have no doubt that it will be. The film is 100% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and everybody is raving about it. I'm looking forward to this tremendously.

What about Avengers did you not care for?

yeah...um....

What about Avengers did you not care for?
One example:

The scene where black widow was tied to a chair... It wasn't a believable situation. The villains acted like half witted amateurs. The information they had, that was supposedly actually worth the time of such an elite spy as the legendary Black Widow, could more easily have been extracted from them by her without endangering herself by being dangled over a ledge. It was a very weak attempt at imposing a sense of danger and displaying Black Widow's skill and wit at outmaneuvering and outsmarting a few incompetent imbeciles. And they expect me to believe those morons had any kind of rank or sway in any real criminal organization? I facepalmed so hard there was a loud smack and it actually hurt. Compare it with Casino Royale's scene where James Bond gets captured and tortured. Although he's the main character and we knew he wouldn't die, at least there was a persuasive enough sense of danger, and at least he experienced some pain, and at least his captor was someone intelligent enough to have believably attained his position, power, and influence in the criminal underworld.

So you're problem with The Avengers was you? I'm pretty sure you misinterpreted that scene. At no point were you supposed to suspect she was in genuine danger. The scene served the purpose of showing how she works, which would come back later when she confronts Loki and it served as comedy relief.

Comparing this film to Casino Royale is absurd. The Avengers is a $200 million live-action cartoon. The two films couldn't be further apart in either tone or intent.

Maybe you should watch The Avengers as it's supposed to be watched instead of trying to apply things to the film that never should exist to begin with. It's popcorn fluff, pure and simple. Stop over thinking it.

Thought it was better than The Avengers. Bautista was somehow hilarious, too

Guess an internet moratorium is necessary, just gotta make it to 7:00 tomorrow night. No chance of avoiding the images of Thanos. My mind keeps telling me this is what he will sound like...

p.s.

Dear Marvel, now that this year's crown jewel is here, can I please get that Ultron footage?

Don't like the look of this movie at all. I've got a feeling this movie will bomb at box office compared to other marvel movies.
I have a feeling this is going to be Marvel's first bomb.
This will probably be Marvels least successful movie.
I don't want to say "I told you so" but, well, yes I do.

It's doing even better than I thought it would do. If it holds to normal numbers it will top $200 million domestic.

Well, I was only off by a little bit. Best August opening ever is hard to believe.

Yeah, it was aright, I guess.

It mostly looks amazing, but still not as special as Thor, which I re-watched recently and was reminded what a spectacle the climax was where Loki freezes the Bifrost with the Casket of Ancient Winters before the showdown on the Rainbow bridge — there is still nothing in this film both as imaginative or beautiful as those scenes. Still, in the wasteland at the start of the film to the gritty sprawl of Knowhere we have some very atmospheric locations, as well as a constant steam of cool looking shots.

So, that aside, the real strength of the movie is the characters. They have consistent, believable interactions with each other. Each of them has a moment of weakness, and they each change in a simple but effective way. All of this is done with mostly a bunch of jokes. And this is a pretty funny movie, believe it. Even better than Iron Man 3 for laughs, I think.

All that works great... for 2/3rds of the movie. However, Guardians suffers more in my opinion from third act over the top empty flash and bang than any Superhero film I've seen in a while. I love a good action climax, but you've got to build up to it right, it's got to mean something, and shouldn't feel like it's there to tick a box. The Winter Soldier and Days of Future Past handled the climax incredibly well. Next to those, this is a pretty dismal attempt. It's very cliche: deep voiced evil dude comes to end the world, airplanes falling out of the sky, tons of faceless mooks as cannon fodder for the heroes. And it didn't feel natural how the Guardians are still are the front of this action when it gets around the saving the world... they just didn't get to that place in the film in a believable fashion — like, what could those five misfits who had just been trying to survive up to this point do when Ronan invades that an army of ravagers or the Nova corps couldn't? Use Rocket's handmade big gun? And seeing as you're supposed to be world building, why not switch focus over to some of the Nova corps characters for a while, or to the villains again (which were rubbish, by the way).

James Gunn has made quite a kooky film here, what with the crude, off-beat humour and the retro music and some creative visuals, but also one that's quite formulaic. It has a lot of clever detail in places, but is also pretty dumb in places too.

just as expected. the movie was great, scenes, background work all are just fabulous and the day I watched this movie it was the best experience ever in Cinema. Awesome!!!

Just as everyone said and as expected, GOTG is the best Marvel movie EVER! The cast is superb, bringing out every type of emotion to the audience. Phenomenal action, amazing impeccable approach to humor and a soundtrack that is nothing less than perfection.
It has an emotional core and you actually get to care about each and every single character. The cast is superb, and knowing that they will all return for a sequel made me enjoy them even more. Director James Gunn has created a cinematic space opera masterpiece that should NOT go overlooked.
