I had Videodrome at #6. I've watched it a few times over the years and I like it more and more with each viewing. Starship Troopers is a lot of fun, and Sunshine and Gattaca are worthy additions to the list.

In Switzerland they had brotherly love - they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock."

Oi, I love Gattaca.
But somehow I forgot about it when I was watching this list. Thanks for reminding me of this great movie (though I think it deserves a higher place).

Haven't watched Sunshine yet.

Gattaca was Yoda's choice for December '15 Movie of the Month: GATTACA

If memory serves me, everyone who watched it and posted about it, really liked it. It's an intelligent sci fi with the focus on humanity not technology. I bumped the Movie of the Month thread but I guess there's no interest.

Anyway, Gattaca is an awesome movie and was my #13
My review Gattaca

I watched Videodrome for the first time when I was 12. I still have not recovered.

I had Sunshine at 25 and Gattaca at 14 on my list.

I haven't seen either of these.
That's fast becoming your new catchphrase thanks to this thread! Replacing old favourites such as "I hate you" and "you suck".

Gattaca makes the 7th film of mine to make it, though it only just snuck on at the last minute. I thought I had 25 films ready to go but when I went to submit I realised I'd made a mistake and it was only 24. There was a batch of possibilities to fill the last spot but I eventually went with Gattaca. Here's what I wrote a few years back for anyone that's interested -

JayDee's Gattaca review

And Sunshine I really liked for about the first hour or so; finding it it be a smart and visually strong film, and I appreciated the fact that for once it actually had a properly internatonal cast to represent an international crew. It rather lost me however in its third act when it all of a sudden went all Event Horizon. I would like to give it another chance though at some point as I did like it up until then

Nothing good comes from staying with normal people
4 new titles, seen 3 of them, 1 made my list at # 24, and that was Gattaca. Really liked it, though I've heard said it's a bit slow and highbrow for certain people, the latter point I never got. Both Law and Hawke does fantastic roles, and Thurman isn't bad herself.

Seems like I'll have to remedy not seeing Sunshine based on what I've heard here. Must've missed it when it came out, cause I've only heard about it in the last few years.

Starship Troopers is a fun watch, but not Verhooven's best in my opinion. Didn't really care for Videodrome.

Seen 38/50

My List:
6.The Martian
7.Wreck-it Ralph
8.Serenity
18.Ghost in the Shell
20.Silent Running

Welcome to the human race...
I like both, but neither made my list. I remember when the third act of Sunshine hit, I sat there thinking what the hell is going on. Was it enough to ruin the whole film? No, it just took a really great sci/fi film into a totally different direction.

I vote "ruined."
That third act is like Iro - it ruins everything!

Welcome to the human race...
Whatever, Interstellar pulled the same thing and it's almost certainly going to make the top 50, so quit yer bellyachin'.
