2021 Film Challenge

Here’s looking at you, kid.
There are quite a few recs on pages 3 and 4 from users in this challenge.

Congratulations on getting through the first part so quickly! Hopefully you saw some stuff you really liked. This time around I'm being more thoughtful in my selections and really trying to pick films that genuinely interest me.
Most of the films I picked were already in my watchlist, I think there were only two I never heard of that I had to do some research on. There were also a few films (2 I think) that I had already previously seen this month. Still being 2021, I didn’t see the harm in it.

I think he only watched 1 film from the main challenge (The one in green font), while the red ones are his picks that he has yet to watch. Right @BooBooKittyFock? Finishing the main challenge within a month would be crazy.

@tacoma11

Saw quite a few of the recs already, but I’ve been wanting to see Short Term 12!

Thanks for the help.

Do I also post recs or is it too late?

Quick question that I didn't see an answer to previously in the thread (so apologies if I missed it somewhere): Is there a place where one can find the "2020 finalized edition" of the IMDB Top 250?

Must have missed that. Here you are.

Do I also post recs or is it too late?
Feel free to offer recommendations. There is no deadline on it.

Yeah, only seen the ones in green.

The big country was a phenomenal film, one of my favorite western films I’ve seen to date!

Some people around here can tell you how I feel about Short Term 12. I just love it to bits. And I know that some of that is because of my own professional and personal experiences, but I think it's really solid and while it has some flaws, none of them really put a dent in the film for me.

And please post recs! I haven't officially picked my "recommended" film yet.

The trick is not minding
Yeah, only seen the ones in green.

I watched The Big Country for last years challenge (1950’s western category). Really enjoyed it as well.

Such a great film. I love films that use morality as one of its main topics.

I’m not sure how many of you have already picked your recs, but here are mine.

I’ve seen all of these films and they are among, some of my all time favorites, if you have not seen them yet, I hope you will hold them close to your heart as I have:

Handmaiden
Eyes Wide Shut
Singin In the Rain
Come and See
The Big Country

I have seen all of these, so feel free to keep more coming!

For anyone else, I would especially second Handmaiden, Singin' in the Rain, and Come and See.

@Takoma11

Arsenic and Old Lace

I Married a Witch

Kung Fu Hustle

The Host

Pixote
I've seen all but Pixote, which coincidentally I started a few weeks ago but stopped because I could tell I wasn't in the right mood. Thanks!

And I LOVE Kung Fu Hustle. Sometimes when I'm down, I watch the clip with the knives and the snakes and I die laughing.

Here’s looking at you, kid.
Well @Takoma11 , you’ve probably seen a lot more films than I have (how many you up to?) I’m not sure I’ll be able to rec you one unless it was out of dumb luck or a film on my watchlist 🤣

You got a letterboxd?

The gaps in what I've seen lean more toward the mainstream. But I never mind when I've seen other peoples' recommendations. It gives you a sense of their taste (you know, to judge them with!) and sometimes you find that other people really like a film you do. Like, I am loving the Kung Fu Hustle Appreciation Society we've formed here.

Yeah, it’s a great film. I think I’ve seen it at least 3 times this year. Very rewatchable film. Has a little bit of everything I look for in a film. Just a good all around comedy!
