Get me to watch your top musicals, but no promises

Are you sending in a ballot for the musical countdown? I don't think I asked about that before.
Yeah, we talked about and I talked with SE about it as well. I do like some musicals but not fond of them. I have a few favorites and some that I had seen.

You should watch Brigadoon. As well as Hans Christian Andersen. Other than those two films from that era, I only like Singin' In The Rain.

There is only a small few from the 70s I enjoy, like Tommy and Lost Horizon (this one not so much for the music, but you know who).

I only like a few modern musicals.

I did forget one -Fame.

The Greatest Showman (2017)

I liked this, Hugh Jackman was great as P.T. Barnum showman, promoter and famous for the the Ringling Brothers Circus. I was engaged and entertained. I liked some of the songs but like many newer musicals there were too many songs for me that went on too long. What I really wanted was more of the story of Barnum, still I did enjoy it for what it was.

I'm glad you enjoyed The Greatest Showman. I was looking forward to seeing this from the first time that I heard that Hugh Jackman was starring in it, and it was worth the wait.

There's also a different musical about P.T. Barnum called Barnum. It was a Broadway show starring Jim Dale many years ago, and Michael Crawford starred in the London West End version in 1986. (I saw the Broadway show with Jim Dale back in 1980.)

It's not eligible for the Musicals Countdown because it's a filmed stage show, but if you're interested in seeing it, the version starring Michael Crawford is available on DVD, and it's on YouTube, (but the quality on YouTube is not great).

Thanks GBG, after watching The Greatest Showman I looked up films about P.T. Barnum. I love movies about circuses and carnivals and have seen a lot. Billy Rose's Jumbo (1962) is a musical, I might have to what that one before I send in my ballot.

I'm trying to think of any that Rules might NOT have seen...

All I can come up with is Ella Enchanted (2004) maybe?

Another I saw not long ago was the obscure Absolute Beginners (1986) - really weird movie.

There was another really bizarre one I caught part of on TCM called The Apple (1980) - I always wanted to see the whole thing (one of those so bad it's good movies).

Thanks but I wasn't wanting unusual recommendations for musicals that I haven't seen. That's not what I'm trying to do here. This is:
We have exactly two months until the Sept 17th deadline to submit ballots for the upcoming MoFo Top 100 Musical Countdown. I want MoFos to give me 1-3 of your top musicals that will make your ballot. If I watch them and love them, they will make my ballot and get more points. The more points a musical gets the better chance it has of making the countdown. I need to seriously start watching musicals, so hit me up!

I've seen Billy Rose's Jumbo, but I'm not a fan. It's one of my least favorite Doris Day movies. (But it's been a while since I've seen it, and I've never had a desire to rewatch it.)

Is Ella Enchanted a musical?

Oops. Shame on me for not reading the beginning of the thread.

In that case:

The Music Man
South Pacific
1776

I'm not a big fan of South Pacific, but the other two movies are probably locks for my list.

The Music Man
South Pacific
1776

All three are musicals I appreciate and I'd consider top rated. But I find 1776 not as fun to watch as The Music Man and South Pacific...not enough pretty actresses for me in 1776 Though I still might rewatch 1776 if I have the time before the ballot deadline.

How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying (1967)
Yeah that's a favorite, I caught back when I went on a Robert Morse movie binge. I should watch that again.

Society researcher, last seen in Medici's Florence
L' homme orchestre [The One Man Band] (1970)
Everyone Says I Love You (1996)
The Rose (1979)

Not sure if The Rose falls under musical genre but I still lobbying.

Are those likely to make your ballot?

They're locks for sure (upper half of the ballot).
Thanks mrblond...All look like good choices, I'll watch Everyone Says I Love You (1996) as I see it's a Woody Allen film that I've never seen.

I always say that if there hadn't have been a Jerry Lewis, then Robert Morse would have been Jerry Lewis. (If you know what I mean.)
