Top 50 Favorite Movies

I love My Neighbor Totoro! It was number 13 on my own list. It's one of those laid back movies that I love to watch when I just want to sit back and relax for a while. Great choice!

Soundtracks and my favorites

I forgot to comment that soundtracks are of major importance in my enjoyment of a movie. In fact most of my favorites have highly memorable soundtracks. Music itself gives an enormous amount of information and is a substantial part of what constitutes the atmosphere of a film watching experience. Lack of music is my main issue with manga by the way, though I usually listen to viking metal when reading.

Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica (Celtic spooky stuff!)

I think that the reason why I was so deeply affected by Madoka is its very disturbing and tragic sounding soundtrack, can be even regarded as a form of manipulation.

There is an obvious bias towards Japan and some bias towards US stuff (11 out of 50, which is more than US's proportion in world film production). Japan it's because most animation comes from there and I am an animation buff, US because most live action movies I have watched have been American (in Brazil, 95% of the box office is dominated by Hollywood moving pictures), though many of those are mediocre ones as well while I have watched the supposedly top masterpieces of the rest of the world. I also love science fiction so that many sci fi movies show up and very high on the list.

A pretty diverse list, some TV anime series, and a couple slots included more than one, but some really solid films in there. God job Guap!
