What a weird thread to bump....it's funny because in 2004 they had nudity in films, yet over the last ten years or so it seems like films were becoming more and more sanitized, homogeneous and bland. When an actress went nude for the last few years it was a big deal and it often led to an Oscar (McDormand in Nomadland Stone in Poor Things). So it's kinda gone from a marketing gimmick to now Award bait gimmick.
My take on anything is...is this a cliche and derivative. I don't think their is anything worse than going to a sexy movie and it's all atmosphere. Or the characters are attractive but the shots are so carefully ended and costumed it just takes you out of the film.
I will say Kings of Kindness, The Apprentice, and The Substance were all enhanced by having nudity in the stories. And I feel like Maxxxine was hurt by not having enough sex in it rather making it more about cameo's. But at the end of the day I'm happy we're going back to the direction where adults can watch adult entertainment and I hope Anora is excellent with nudity...because it's needed.
