Best International Film submissions (2025 Oscars)

Deadline has put together a list of all the submissions for the Best International Feature Film to be awarded at the 2025 Oscars.

Many of these movies (save Emilia Perez, obviously) will likely only receive a token release, if any, but should be worth watching

Have you seen any of these yet?
Yes! I have seen Touch and Kneecap already. Both were excellent!

Do you think they will get nominated?
I'm afraid they may get ignored by the Academy because they're both pretty idiosyncratic. But they are definitely worth watching!

What do you predict will get nominated for international film?

Aside from Emilia Perez, I wouldn't want to make any predictions... Each and every year the Academy makes some questionable choices.

Also, I believe more films are still going to be added to the list in coming weeks (they said the would keep updating their list)

Doesn't seem there is a dominant one like Zone of Interest from last year.
Emilia Perez is the front runner and I expect it to win best international film and get several other nominations, including best picture.

And definitely best actress!!

A Spanish language musical won't win the Best Picture Oscar.
I think it has a shot. There have been some non-traditional winners lately. Everything Everywhere All At Once and Parasite would not have been the type of films to win in the past. Things have changed somewhat with the Academy.

100%

The Academy membership has been really diversified in recent years, and I suppose it will continue to become more diverse in future years.

I will probably see the Nordic countries films and the Slovak countries films.

I have seen many of the films for international category that didn't win and they were very good.

No Oppenheimer this year, so there might be a chance these smaller quirkier movies

I think Anora has the best chance at winning best picture, followed by Emilia Perez and The Brutalist. Conclave, Sing Sing or Blitz might be in the mix too.
