My Outstanding Lead Actresses of the 1980's

Tools

I already did the actors, so I thought I better take care of the ladies too...if I had given out the Oscars for Outstanding Lead Actress during the 1980's:

1980: Mary Tyler Moore, Ordinary People

1981: Diane Keaton, Reds

1982: Jessica Lange, Frances

1983: Shirley MacLaine, Terms of Endearment

1984: Judy Davis, A Passage to India

1985: Mia Farrow, The Purple Rose of Cairo

1986: SIgourney Weaver, Aliens

1987: Glenn Close, Fatal Attraction

1988: Jodie Foster, The Accused

1989: Jessica Tandy, Driving Miss Daisy

These are mine.

1980 Catherine Deneuve, The Last Metro
1981 Katharine Hepburn, On Golden Pond
1982 Sissy Spacek, Missing
1983 Felissa Rose, Sleepaway Camp
1984 Karen Allen, Starman
1985 Cher, Mask
1986 Marlee Matlin, Children of a Lesser God
1987 Stéphane Audran, Babette's Feast
1988 Jodie Foster, The Accused
1989 Kathleen Turner, The War of the Roses

Great to see some love for Cher in Mask...I think she deserved a nomination but not the win. I think Hepburn's win for On Golden Pond was the least deserved of the 4 Oscars she won, there was too much other strong work from the ladies that year.

for me would be
Nastassja kinski in cat people
jamie lee curtis
lauren hutton in american gigolo
karen allen in backfire

Hamilton was terrific in The Terminator but there was just WAY too much stronger work by actresses that year for her to get a nomination, let alone an award.

Maybe not strong work like you say but here are ones I really liked.

Kathleen Turner-Body Heat
Sharon Stone-Basic Instinct
Alyssa Milano-Embrace of the Vampire
Kim Basinger-Nine 1/2 Weeks
Linda Hamilton-The Terminator

I've never even heard of Embrace of the Vampire...Sharon Stone was better in Casino.
If you or anyone likes Alyssa Milano,Embrace of the Vampire is a can't miss movie!
