"Down by nearly two million units on the 133.1million units recorded in the first half of 2021. Despite that, anything streamed, downloaded or purchased prior to 18 months grew by 14 per cent to 344million units in the first half of this year."

"In the UK meanwhile, a recent report showed vinyl sales in the UK look set to overtake CDs this year."

There's so many ways to access music now (radio, internet, streaming, etc) there's no excuse for it being this bad.

I don't know for sure, but there are probably fewer bands and songs being written because there are fewer in the profession. Therefore there are fewer "units" sold.

I don't know how bands and artists are able to make money any more from recordings. As soon as something goes on digital it's immediately stolen and copied-- oftentimes to YouTube.

These days the public expects to get everything for free.

And that may be why vinyl is up. It's much harder to copy and steal.
