Only heard of Amy out of the Documentaries, i want to see Cartel Land and Listen to Me Marlon now though. Meh on Minions being nominated, it is the worst film i've seen from last year not that i've seen much but yeah it was pretty bad, can't see Inside Out losing anyway.

A few surprises and baffling inclusions there. Minions making the cut ahead of Anomalisa, Good Dinosaur, Peanuts Movie etc is a big surprise. Also a bit of surprise how much support for Bridge of Spies there is. Not seen it myself yet so not saying it doesn't deserve it but I don't imagine it was getting a huge amount of buzz surrounding its chances at the awards shows. And while I was one of the few that didn't love it I thought Mad Max Fury Road would possibly have picked up a nomination for Best Film or Director.

However for me personally the big one is the amount of love being shown to The Big Short. Didn't particularly care for that one and am really surprised it's picked up so many nominations in big categories. I especially can't believe that Christian Bale has picked up a nomination in the Best Supporting Actor category; baffling. And the fact that Sylvester Stallone isn't there for Creed makes it even more so given he appears to be just about the favourite for the Oscar

Well, I think they've done a better job than the Globes this year.

Im going to try and catch a few of the foreign films they nominated, because out of all the major ceremonies, I'd say the BAFTA's own this one. They nominated memorable films like In the Mood for Love, Let the Right One In and Two Days, One Night, the Globes and Oscars excluded all of them

They usually show love to actors in foreign films like Ziyi Zhang and Noomi Rapace, but they haven't done this year. Looks like Julie Walters is their quintessential British actor in a British film nom this time

The BAFTA's hate blockbuster type films, so they'll never nominate films like Mad Max.
They also seem to prioritise British and foreign actors for final places over mainstream, Hollywood actors like Stallone so that doesn't surprise me either.

Bright light. Bright light. Uh oh.
There are different rules different groups follow. The Oscars allow one film per country and the country picks its own. Stupid rule but you have to expect many of the best to not get nominated. Anomalisa hasn't even played in the UK yet, so it might get nominated next year.

Didn't see much this year, but I'm surprised Hateful 8 has only 2 nominations, with the amount of excellent reviews it has been receiving!

That'll explain a lot, thanks Mark!
