Weird is relative.

I suppose it failed as a mystery or as a comedy but I found it watchable. Happytime Murders
I'd rate it the same. I thought it was pretty funny, but I probably have a weird sense of humor.

Mile 22 (2018)

Dross, Berg seems to get worse and worse or has maybe just always been at this level and got a pass. This is an ungodly mess, paper thin characters, non-existent plot, risible dialogue....merde!! 2/10.

Maybe people give him a pass because he taps into sad America with true stories. Patriot's Day, Lone Survivor, Deepwater Horizon. Then you look at his other films you get Battleship, Mile 22, Hancock.

Never seen Friday Night Lights or The Kingdom.

Halloween 2018

Pretty enjoyable since I don't really have much time fro these types of movies, no real shocks in the storyline. Got a bit mixed up at the are they related etc as this is supposed to be the true sequel to the original but in the end it doesn't really matter. Carpenters soundtrack (or just theme) still packs a punch 7/10.
They mention that the relation bit was fake news. As a way to ignore the sequels and be a direct sequel to the original. I can see how it might confuse some people since Hollywood likes to retcon now and ignore certain movies.

Really adored the dialogue, cinematography, acting, and direction. Lakeith Stanfield made this film, and turned an audience surrogate character into so much more through his amazing performance. Also, absolutely loved the twist - for I have not laughed so hard in my entire life (mostly at the surface-level idea of this metaphor being in a major motion picture), and not in a bad way. Pretty ambitious storytelling.

Which brings me to all the themes and symbolism, which all seemed to be blatantly on the noise. What was the overall message here? There were several. But if you had to narrow it down: I'm pretty sure it was anti-capitalist (in a sense).

Also, I don't believe in the notion that you have to discarded your black identity in pursuit of profit. That struggle to get by, anxiously waiting for when your next paycheck comes around: applies to literally everyone who's trying their damnedest to make a living, including myself. I understand that it's an extremely tough world. And poverty passed down through generations shouldn't result in more generations being in poverty, as there's ways to prevent that by getting ahead in life - due to your choices and work ethic. If you still manage to be a screw up despite all that, then I don't know what to tell you. It's definitely not white privilege. There's honestly more of an upper-class privilege if anything (even then, some people screw up in that realm).

I dunno, maybe It's just that I'm not black (even though I grew up with divorced parents, one of which was a sexual deviant/criminal, and the other a clinically-depressed alcoholic with rather low income). Bottom line, I hope it's not telling black people that their own problems are because of white people at the top of the food chain who try to suppress their blackness, while also trying to appropriate it by picking and choosing what they like and don’t like about said culture (I.E; the "n*gga sh*t” scene). Doesn't take away from any of the incredibly competent filmmaking, though. But please movie, continue talking about systematic racism, how we try to make black people white, etc. Just kidding.

>Be film
>Capitalism is evil!
>Rise up against evil oppressive privileged whites!
>Seize the means of production!
>Crush white oppressors with violence!
>That will be $9.50. We hope you enjoy your film and thank you for your business. Refreshments are available. Please turn your phone to silent and enjoy the film!

Haha, just kidding. But I'm not wrong, am I? Just kidding about that too.

Also, Tessa Thompson is my waifu. For I, a lonely incel, have claimed her. And any MoFo willing to take her from me shall face the wrath of my Stormbreaker.

Leave no trace (2018)

Great acting (I expect nothing less from Ben Foster) and an impressive storyline. Its about a father with PTSD and how he is capable of maintaining a loving and nurturing relationship with his daughter in isolation but when faced with normal rules, not really interactions, panics. Both leads were exceptional and the pacing and dialogue were perfect. Ben Foster nailed it on this man. Great to see Dale Dickey pop up too...she looks younger than in "Winters bone" 9/10

I see TheUsualSuspect. Great Thread idea though "retcons" must have been done Shirley?

Never seen Friday Night Lights or The Kingdom.
Of the other ones you mention TheUsual I've seen "Lone Survivor" and "Patriots Day"..can't say I'm rushing to see his other output....really the same guy in "The Last seduction" and "Copland" ?

Time To Take On Some HAMMER STUDIO VAMPIRES

The Vampire Lovers (1970)

A British Horror film set in the 18th century Bavarian woods, starring a certain dazzling countess as the flesh-devouring Marcilla, Peter Cushing as General Von Spielsdorf, and a drove of ridiculously attractive women seduced by Ingrid Pitt's bewitching vampire. She uses a clever mixture of attack, visiting the dreams of her targets she is more fond of as a big gray seductive cat-wolf, while using more direct methods of ATTACK for more disposable casualties. Set against Marcilla and her steadily growing company of vampires, are the vampire hunter Baron Hartog- poised to avenge the demise of his sister, and the grieved-over-his-slain-daughter, General Peter Cushing. A craftily arranged battle follows as the intelligently sexual vampire beings encounter the forces of good arraigned against them. Some insanely erotic scenes as well as Ingrid Pitt rinses her bare physique in a powder room bath. Hammer gets the vampire hunters right as well by refraining from making them too action-hero, while maintaing the stake through the heart or decapitation vampire lore. Somewhat old-fashioned, yet superb solid-seven of a film.

Twins Of Evil (1971)

Two orphaned twins played by Playboy centerfold models Mary and Madeleine Collinson, move to the German village of Karnstein to live with their Uncle Gustav (Peter Cushing). In old Gothic Europe, they had two burning passions. Cushing plays a sincere yet fanatical puritan devoted to a life of witch-hunting with his fellow men in the community known as the "Brotherhood." While high up in an old castle on a mountain, the wicked Count Karnstein engages in witchcraft, protected from incarceration from his royal aristocratic connections. Frieda, the wicked of the two twins, more than anything else, wants to meet Count Karnstein, while Maria wishes to remain faithful to her Uncle. They look alike, they dress alike, two identical beauties, mystifying the Brotherhood hunters of witches. Enchanting Hammer Double-Feature into the Mystical Germanic woods.

The Forest For The Trees - 8/10
Thanks Tokeza and Stirchley... It's been about a year since I've given an 8/10 to a movie made in my lifetime. This was very good, and as I suspected, just one look at the photograph when I was browsing yesterday totally grabbed me. Before I read a single word!

The world needs more Melanie, and less Tina.... Original. In a way, Melanie was a little condescending towards the only guy she could somewhat confide in, but not the way Tina was.. Maybe this is life - people and their hierarchies of worth after an examination of their pros and cons, etc.

I tried looking for Eve Lobau and the only thing I found was a porno! If anyone knows anything she starred in, let me know, I'd only be watching it for her.

I agree with Tokeza, the kind of camera used, and the shakiness. I like it as a tool, but not the entire way through - it just makes me kinda nauseous.

"Honor is not in the Weapon. It is in the Man"

Maine (Matthew Brown, 2018): A married Spanish woman on a journey to self-discovery meets an American hiker, slowly forming a bond that has the potential to lead to something neither expected. Pretty good performances by leads Laia Costa and Thomas Mann, having a sense of natural chemistry as if you're watching a documentary and director Brown starts the film with 10 minutes of no dialogue whatsoever, an ingenious move.

ENOUGHT SAID (2013) NICOLE HOLOFCENER

This is one of the best romantic movies I've ever saw, though, I didn't yet watched a lot of them, at least, script-wise is gorgeous, the content is great. This is a story about how your attraction to someones personality, life-style, life philosophies and general behavior can lead you to a weird kind of glorification to a point where you share there opinions without questioning. This movie lead this to a extreme case: love. If someone you idolaters doesn't like someone that you deeply enjoy can you accept your own perspective without insecurities?
