Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019)

It's weird because I think it could have been so much better yet I still loved it. Leo was great but I thought it was Pitt's movie. Him and his dog were totally badass. It doesn't have the brilliant dialogue of his other best movies. A lot of movie within a movie stuff, pretty cool especially with a western countdown upcoming here. Still, I would have liked a little less of that and more L.A. partying. Great soundtrack, not as quirky as his others. For me it's the combination of the Hollywood scene with the Manson cult, a good time with such a horribly ominous feel. The visual of a pregnant Sharon Tate while hearing Mick Jagger sing Out of Time blew my mind and my heart. Even the ending could have been better, and it was still friggin awesome. The ending made the movie for my wife. Ultimate fantasy.

The Irishman (2019)

I cant really justify leaning this rating higher, because it is subjective. It's too long for my taste, and mob movies really aren't my taste either. My wife wanted to watch it so we did. Everything about it is sound, from the acting performances to the pacing. I just couldn't get Casino and Goodfellas out of my head whenever I see DeNiro and Pacino on screen together in this one.

MOONSTRUCK
(1988)

First time watching it. Pleasant and funny film.

It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!” ~ Rocky Balboa

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019)

I bought it on BluRay. I'm watching it the second time now. I must say it's one of those movies that gets better second time around.

Turning Paige (2001)

I really enjoyed this interpersonal drama about dealing with life's hardships and coming to terms with reality in a dysfunctional family. Katherine Isabelle was terrific as usual. I think this movie hangs on its writing and realism. It does a good job of criticising its characters.

Ready or not (2019)

Quirky thriller/dark comedy. Enjoyed watching, great idea and executed well. A darker ending would have been nice. Samara Weaving was excellent.

Like this doesn't make perfect sense (especially since you can dig through this thread to find me giving it the same rating two years back).

The Report (2019)

Directed by Scott Z. Burns, and starring Adam Driver, Annette Bening, along with Jon Hamm, Corey Stoll, and other familiar faces, this Amazon picture had the obligatory several week's theatrical run before streaming on Amazon Prime November 29.

Despite the histrionic efforts of Adam Driver, and a very effective made up likeness by A. Bening of Diane Feinstein, the movie was pretty flat. There was no suspense or tension, and the dialogue pretty much consisted of the players sitting around being shocked that the CIA could actually be plying a program of torture outside U.S. borders. Yet anyone who would be surprised that the CIA is capable of anything, no matter how corrupt or criminal, has not given the subject much thought or investigation.

The picture had the patina of a liberal smooch fest, with another attempt --following on the heels of the dull The Post-- of recreating the glory days of All the President's Men. There were even several scenes in which Driver has clandestine meetings with a reporter from the New York Times, ala an Edward Snowden scenario, but that fizzles out. This screen play did not have that type of heft, fascination, nor pacing of previous pictures. The film might be of interest to those who work in D.C., or to folks who study its machinations.

The narrative plodded along under the assumption that the 9/11 attack was more than enough reason to allow for vastly increased defense and retaliation toward the Middle East, without ever questioning who the players were in either the planning or the attacks themselves. To my taste it would have been a far more interesting story to question the CIA's involvement. But that film will likely never be made.

Doc's rating: 4/10

I don't remember you being such a fan. I could also read your review on why you like it so much.

The Miracle Of Morgan's Creek (Preston Sturges, 1943)

Fairly entertaining but won't be making my Westerns List

Flesh for Frankenstein (1973)

A curio that was directed by Andy Warhol associate Paul Morrissey. Time has not been kind to flicks like these. It starts with an idea then seems sellotaped together till the end. The acting is all-round woeful but there is a good spirit about the production that comes through.

Corny and camp:

Two Mules For Sister Sara (Don Siegel, 1970)

Seems like a perfectly fair swap to me

"Honor is not in the Weapon. It is in the Man"

War (Siddharth Anand, 2019)
Two of Bollywood's major action stars, Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff, join forces in this action packed thriller about a former military team leader turned rogue agent (Roshan) and his protege (TS), who is tasked with tracking him down. The action sequences pay homage to the likes of Mission: Impossible and Fast and Furious franchises. However, the third act takes a page from a certain John Woo movie that sends shockwaves! This is one of the best Bollywood action films in recent times IMO
