The Big Lebowski Comedy. Coen Brothers. 1998

This movie is different than really any movie I have seen before. It's stupid, witty, trippy, and way out there - but that's what makes it good. All I knew coming into the movie was that it was a Coen production and it was a comedy, but I was definitely caught off guard here since the only Coen brothers movies I've seen are No Country and Fargo - and all I can say is wow, how much different those are compared to this. There are a lot of memorable one liners that came from this, but at some parts (mostly the beginning) I felt like they could have changed a bit. Although it might not be my favorite Coen film to date, it's still a really good comedy and film in general.

I love The Big Lebowski yet at the same time find it a little overrated. It does get better for me every time I see it. Idk, I don't find it all that funny, but I do think it's amusing as hell.

It's a piece of crap.

I think there are several reasons why people throw it that rating. First off, it was a film that was very different and unique at the time, which has later become cult in the same vein as Pulp Fiction, for example. Therefore it is really a film of its period in time, and may not capture an audience in the same way today as it did back then. That said, I was one of those who watched it late, but still loved it a whole lot.

It is a crazy and off-beat kind of film, that totally hit me right on the spot. I loved the characters, the dialogue with all the memorable quotes, the soundtrack, the acting and so on... I give it a
personally, but it is definitely a film that falls in different taste in different people's eyes. I also think that the more you watch this film, the more you'll love it - as it is the case with pretty much every Coen-film actually... But yeah, the film has an atmosphere you will love to revisit over time if you in any way like the film, so I will definitely recommend you pick it up again in the future, I guarantee you'll enjoy the revisit!

That makes sense. Didnt really think of Pulp but they are kind of the same, cult wise. Ill definitely come back to this at a later date, im sure ill enjoy it more. That was the case with Fargo too, not the biggest fan first time then the next few watches I found it to be great. Thanks for explaining this, cleared things up,

I have to disagree here, I don't think it's much a film of its period that would have affected audiences differently at a different time. I didn't see it until a few years ago, and have seen it probably five times in full since. People give it five stars, simply because, it's a five star film As it's been echoed over and over again in different threads, it's a film that the majority of people who love it agree that it gets funnier every time, it's hard to catch the genius of all the lines the first time through

Maybe I explained it wrong, I was more referring to its impact and the way that it has devloped into a cult classic. I probably shouldn't have called it lesser accessible for a newer audience, that was probably wrong.

I get you, I think that the fact it has 'developed' in to a favourite over time for many people shows its rewatchability, even Ebert gave it 3/4 on release and later included it in his Great Movies. There's just so many lines that I didn't notice when I first saw it, and the plot is a bit too noir/confusing which makes everything hard to keep up with, so when you go in ready to listen properly to the comedy, it becomes a whole lot funnier for me.

I will definitely have to watch it again sometime. Thanks for the responses guys and please feel free to leave suggestions for movies to watch, I need some.

The Departed Thriller. Martin Scorsese. 2006.

A great movie, led by great acting by Nicholson, DiCaprio, and Damon along with great casting for supporting actors like Wahlberg, Martin Sheen, and Alec Baldwin. I wasn't sure before the movie if it was a gang movie, or just crime movie but it turned out to be a great mixture of both. The pace was very well done, like any Scorsese movie and it wasnt too short or too long which seems really weird considering it got close to 150 minutes of runtime. At some parts though, I felt like I knew what was going to happen next which was a bit of a turn off, but it's easy to get past. It might not be the best Scorsese movie, but it most certainly wasn't his worst and looks like the best version of the film to date. I was pissed at the ending when SPOILER* (Leo Dies because I wanted him to catch Damon so bad) *SPOILER, , but seeing what happens as it ended completely, I couldn't be mad. Overall, a great movie and very entertaining, but probably not a movie I'd put in my top 10/20.

Good to see you reviewing, Cole. However, if you're going to use spoilers (and it's appreciated by me. ) it doesn't help if you then give it away with the rest of the sentence. If you click on the exclaimation icon in the advanced menu, you can title the spoiler and then write as you please without having someone accidently find out something they didn't want to. For example:

WARNING: "This is a spolier wrap" spoilers below
See. Now you can put all the information you want in here without having to worry about leaving something out.

Keep up the good work.

That's my bad on that, not sure why I didn't white out the rest of the sentence. And with the spoiler wrap, I usually see [spoiler] as a command, so after I saw that didn't work I just figured there was nothing for them. Thanks for checking in I guess, though.

I love The Departed and consider it probably a second tier gangster classic with movies like Donnie Brasco, Casino, and Carlito's Way. If you want to see the best, check out Goodfellas and The Godfather, if you haven't already.

Goodfellas is in my top 5 , and sadly I have not seen The Godfather... inb4 -1 rep from everyone. I'll add that to my list.
