Yes, Roth dosn't compare to Miike in anyway. I should have included him

For the most part, people know him for his films like History of Violence and Eastern Promises..not Rage..or the Fly.
I don't think this is true. He certainly has a lot more horror-ish films than non-horror-ish to be known by.

I wouldn't call it horror though because most of the time he isn't going for scares per se, just "wtf"s or "woah"s

All in all this was just an extremely poorly made poll.

If you know Cronenberg mainly for his crime dramas, then you don't really know him. He might not be a "typical horror" (whatever that might be) director but I've been a fan of his for a long time.

Well, we can split hairs all day but as far as I'm concerned he is Cronenberg the director of bizzare and horrific movies. He's similar to Lynch in that he takes a more psychological approach, and seems to be a bit of a concept-driven intellect, but he definitely has made his share of horror.

He practically coined the term 'body-horror', though I get where Iro is coming from about not immediately thinking of him as a 'horror' director which I think is more a compliment to his ability to create his own unique visions.

There was an interesting article comparing Lynch and Cronenberg (more praise than critical), horrors of mind against body I think was the approach. I was tempted to mention Lynch as a horror director as some of his work as a pretty hard edge to it, Eraserhead, TP:FWWM are particularly haunting with some highly disturbing scenes.

^ Exactly. Cronenberg most definitely can be classed as a Horror director. And if he was on the list, he would have got my vote. The sub genre Body Horror, fantastic.

Was this always a poll? Missed that. Some of the last choices are laughable, Green and Roth in the same poll is almost an insult to the talent and if we're including Raimi may as well include Jackson as well.
Roger That.

You guys have forgotten 1 Director though.
Is maybe his only horror flick, but it is that good.

Polanski for Rosemary's Baby!!!!!!!!!

By that logic, let's add Friedkin

By the way, why do we consider Wes Craven movies Horror(I mean scary) ?
They were never scary unless you were a 8 year old looking at Freddy's poster.
Maybe I am wrong, but I think Wes Craven should have been a B-movies director lol.
He should have been an underground legend instead of a mayor Hollywood player.
Wes Craven:
-His movies are Horrific THRILLERS
-He makes B-typish movies of a hollywood scale budget, what a waste
-His movies are annoying. I like Shocker, freddy and scream but they they all have an annoying aspect of a vertigo/looping/InceptionLoop in the stories and you end up not really getting what the hack just happened or at what layer of sleep/dream or nonsense you actually are lol.

Shocker is Wes's least annoying movie.
Why do Freddy kill someone 5 min into their sleep and the others 30 min so annoying and bad crafted movie.
The person who kills in Scream is a surprise yeah of course cause the person physicall aspect dont match the killer.

Have a bit of Respect Wes!
Michael Bay in Transformers so disrespectful with physiscs!!!
Sorry I got a problem with 0% respect for audience's physics.
at least basic physics and logic must be respected.
With that said, Richard Donner's Superman rules!

Have you seen TROLL?

Anyways I voted for Wes Craven. Scream and Nightmare are both great.

I'm going to stick up for Eli Roth. Although his movies seem like gross-out snuff porn, the characters are unforgettable. For example, the first Hostel. The first 45 minutes is backround trying to set the mood. By the time the actual torture begins to happen, you feel affection for those characters. I can't say the same about most other horror directors up there.

I just thought of this one, Ruggero Deodato. He only has one film that I've seen but Cannibal Holocaust was one of the most terrifying movies I've seen.

George Romero changed my life. I'll never forget the impact Dawn of the Dead had on me.

My favorite horror director is George Romero( Night of the Living Dead)

Gotta go with Evil Dead. It's terrific.

honestly I think every single one of these guys are overrated. If I had to pick one though it would be Romero. I do love Wes Cravens Scream franchise though.
