My dad used to play In the Mood until boredom when I was a kid.

And I love Lean On Me with Bill Withers.

now they were out - they were wild with freedom. They weren't thinking about the slavery of poverty. Or the slavery of welfare and food stamps. The rest of us would be all right until the poor learned how to make atom bombs in their basements.

I know....with a 'Greatest of all Time' list it's hard to choose. And, there are so many different genre's of music to consider. What's interesting is when you'll hear an old song re-done...whether for a commercial, a theme song for a sitcom, a classical score re-done for a movie...or re created for a pop or rap song.

I just heard an old song from of Chaka Kahn's (Through the Fire) incorporated in a rap song on the radio. I normally change the station immediatly when i hear rap....but it was kind of cool hearing an 'older' song being appreciated...so I at least lstened to it.

Piddy....I'll bet you'll have fond memories of In the Mood as both you and your dad get older...even if you remember it as boring. And.....

I love Lean on Me...when your not strong~...by Bill Withers. You're such a musicially interesting man.

In no particular order...

Kashmir Led Zeppelin

All of my Love Led Zeppelin

For Crying out Loud Meatloaf/Jim Steinman

The Ghost of Stephen Foster Squirrel Nut Zippers

A Good Ole Boy Like Me Don Williams

Piano Man Billy Joel

L.O.V.E. Nat King Cole

Smoke gets in Your Eyes Platters

Fall of the Peacemakers Molly Hatchet

Love me Tender Elvis Presley

I think I have 300 or so favorite songs... these are off the top of my cranium...

Must beware of poor imitations though.

No, I don't think In the Mood is boring. But when I was living with my parents it could get too much occasionally..

Funny. The first thing women tell me usually is "You're musically interesting". I guess they hear violins playing when they see me...

(Walk in Peace)

I actually resolved a few months back (roughly), in an effort to kill time, to figure just what my favorite songs of all-time were. I started with a very large list, and whittled it down, first to 100, then to 50, then 20, etc. Here's what my "Ten Best Songs of All-Time" list looked like (in no particular order):
  • The Temptations - Ain't Too Proud To Beg
  • Michael Jackson - Billie Jean
  • The Foundations - Build Me Up Buttercup
  • Blue Oyster Cult - (Don't Fear) The Reaper
  • The Proclaimers - I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)
  • Stevie Wonder - Pastime Paradise
  • Santana - Smooth
  • U2 - I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
  • Three Dog Night - Summer In The City
  • Louis Armstrong - What A Wonderful World
I'd change a few of these if I were to recreate this list, but most would stay the same.

1. "I'm Your Man", Leonard Cohen
2. "Cold Sweat", James Brown
3. "'Round Midnight", Thelonious Monk
4. "The Shape I'm In", The Band
5. "Tighten Up", Archie Bell & The Drells
6. "All the World is Green", Tom Waits
7. "Stardust", Hoagy Carmichael
8. "River", Joni Mitchell
9. "Wild Horses", The Rolling Stones
10. "Our Day Will Come", Ruby & The Romantics

I had those three on my list too... but kept changing it... narrowing it down to 10 is hard...

Yeeeeehaaaaa, you are cool my friend. Although I'm not sure I totally agree with All of My Love, it is still a GREAT song. Kashmir's riff is so simple. . .so simple in fact I can play it on guitar. But anyway, it's very simple, yet incredibly awesome. I wanted to shoot Jimmy Page when he did Kashmir with Puff Daddy for Godzilla. I hate Puff Daddy, but that's beside the point. Soooo, you're cool for liking Zeppelin.

This is entirely impossible... But in no particular order:

"There She Goes" - The La's
"Wish You Were Here" - Pink Floyd
"Fight the Power" - Public Enemy
"Let's Get It On" - Marvin Gaye
"Monkey's Gone To Heaven" - The Pixies
"In My Life" - The Beatles
"All Along the Watchtower" - Jimi Hendrix
"I Wanna Be Adored" - The Stone Roses
"There Is Light That Never Goes Out" - The Smiths
"Powderfinger" - Neil Young & Crazy Horse

Let's just say that these are a selection of my 500 favourite songs that I love equally.

There are 10 Bob Marley songs, 10 Bob Dylan songs, 10 Rolling Stones songs, and so on, that would fit on the list... Grrrrrr... It's so hard...

I love Zeppelin too. Lots of people do.

Looking back, I don't really dislike Come With Me (the Puff version of Kashmir). Sure, it never should've happened (EVER!), but since it did, I was able to hear how cool it sounds re-edited with a different orchestral (trying so hard to use the words...) arrangement. Kashmir is several worlds of better though.

Note: (Don't Fear) The Reaper was that (moves fingers very close together) close to being on my list. As a matter of fact, I can't see how I left it off. It should be at my number 8...oh well.

Hendrix's version being my favorite.

10. Riviera Paradise - Stevie Ray Vaughan
9. Number of the Beast - Iron Maiden
8. For Those About To Rock - AC/DC
7. Lazy - Deep Purple
6. Voodoo Chile (Slight Return) - Jimi Hendrix
5. Electric Funeral - Black Sabbath
4. Set The Controls for the Heart of the Sun - Pink Floyd
3. Parasite - KISS
2. La Grange - ZZ Top
1. Over The Hills And Far Away - Led Zeppelin

Actually, I'm never satisfied with any list I make...Something always gets left out.
