A Tune for June (song tourney)

Tools

Round 1

Johnny Mathis - 99 Miles From LA - I don't think I've heard this before, but it instantly worked on me. After about a minute or so I was thinking I might have this above my own choice. Which is the only one I knew I knew before listening.

Wolf Alice - Blush - I've only recently found this band and haven't listened to much, but this grabbed me straight away. Even if it's the only song of theirs I end up really liking, I know it'll be around for a long time with me now. If you do like this, I'd also recommend Moaning Lisa Smile. That's the other one I thought of using but went with this one.

ELECTRIC YOUTH - Tomorrow - I liked this but it's one note and outstayed its welcome. Had it been a couple of minutes shorter I'd probably think better of it.

Slipknot - Unsainted - I think I have this so high because a lot of this round was quite mellow and, well, I've just had a really rough few days.

Beethoven - Choral Symphony, End of Mvt. 4 - It's Beethoven. He does big and overblown really well. The rest is just... nice.

The James Gang - Walk Away - Pleasant, easy 70's listening with a hint of country.

Ludovico Einaudi - Nuvole Bianche - Is nice. Sounds like we all went for something pretty subdued and mellow.,

Martin Delray & Johnny Cash - Get Rhythm - It's country, but it's not really annoying. I wouldn't choose to listen to it, but that's OK.

Joshua Ray Walker - Lot Lizard - More country but not horrible. I think if I was in a better mood I might enjoy it a bit more.

Engage - Holy Diver - Even when I really liked Iron Maiden, those middle albums of the 80's weren't my favourites and part of that was because of this kind of thing. I thought it sounded like a Dio cover even before I found out it was. Just not my thing.

Round Two

1. Turnpike Troubadours - Gin, Smoke, Lies
('Cuz all I smell is authenticity and great f**king music.)

2. Lynyrd Skynyrd - That Smell
(One of my favorite Skynyrd tunes.)

3. Santo & Johnny - Sleepwalk
(Crazy how just a few strings can evoke such emotion and imagery. Like being transported back in time courtesy of a steel guitar. Just wish the song was longer!)

4. Megadeth - Addicted to Chaos
(Enjoyed this a surprising amount given my typical indifference toward the band and my general dislike of Mustaine.)

5. Carla Thomas - (I'm Afraid) The Masquerade is Over
(I love the wide range of music that's being nominated so far. This song is pure class.)

6. Pusha T - Come Back Baby
(The sampling of George Jackson's soulfulness really helps to elevate this. Also: can't hate on a song that namedrops Ric Flair.)

7. Redbone - Come and Get Your Love
(Another song that I've heard countless times but never knew the artist. A definite mood lifter.)

8. Vanic - Save Yourself (ft. Gloria Kim)
(Not terrible, just not a style of music that ever does much for me.)

9. Neil Diamond - Remember Me
(Neil Diamond = )

I'd be willing to argue for that Troubadours' song as a top ten country song of this decade. Maybe top five. I love it. Those dudes are kind of local legends around here. I hope Evan gets his life in order and they can keep making music.

Maddie & Tae - Die From a Broken Heart

I fully understand that country radio won't go full underground and play all the nasty looking dudes I like, but I wouldn't mind if they would play more stuff like this Maddie & Tae song.

I was out of town for couple of days I'm returning for round 3

Symphony X - Electric Messiah
