Round 1 Day 4
Drat!!! my posts have been erased twice today just as I tried to post them.
Don't t know why. So I' m only going ( to try to ) post only my picks, with no commentary .

1-Neil Young HEY HEY MY MY
2- The Rolling Stones - SYMPATHY FOR THE
DEVIL
3- Ahmad - BACK IN THE DAY
4- Tom Petty - I NEED TO KNOW
5- Michael McDonald SWEET FREEDOM
6- Keith Richards - TAKE IT SO HARD
7- John Lennon - HOLD ON
8- Huey Lewis - THE POWER OF LOVE

Women will be your undoing, Pépé
ROUND 1 DAY 4

Gary Lewis and the Playboys - This Diamond Ring VS. Neil Young-Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black)
VERY close, but in the end. . . Diamond Ring is SOOO d@mn catchy

Spirit-I Got a Line on You VS. Sympathy for the Devil - Rolling Stones
Another hard call and eventually went with Spirit

Back in the Day -Ahmad VS. Rare Earth - Get Ready
VERY easy choice! What is rock, one isn't

Montrose - Rock Candy VS. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - I Need to Know
Not a lot of Petty I like, though this is in that limited number I gotta go with Rock Candy with that solid riff

Norman Greenbaum - Spirit in the Sky VS. Michael McDonald - Sweet Freedom
Enjoy McDonald's voice but Norm's Spirit in the Sky works more for me

Toto - Hold The Line VS. Keith Richards - Take It So Hard
One of the few Toto I actually like

John Lennon - Hold On VS. The Mamas and the Papas - Creeque Alley
surprisingly, being a fan of Lennon, I prefer this song by The Mamas and the Papas

Huey Lewis - The Power of Love VS. The Nashville Teens - Tobacco Road
One rocks the other is a pop attempt at rocking, in my eyes

ROUND 1 DAY 5

Robert Tepper - No Easy Way Out VS. The Monkees - Pleasant Valley Sunday
I don't generally like The Monkees, but this was pretty good.

Black Sabbath-N.I.B. VS. ZZ Top - La Grange
A haw, haw, haw, haw, a haw... A haw, haw, haw. Never been a Sabbath fan and La Grange is an ear worm.

Thin Lizzy - Boys Are Back In Town VS. Head East - Never Been Any Reason
Boys Are Back In Town is a classic. The other one's okay though.

Ram Jam - Black Betty VS. Material Girl - Madonna
One of these things is not like the others, one of these things just doesn't belong...

Rick Springfield - Jessie’s Girl VS. Paul Revere & The Raiders - Indian Reservation
I like "Jessie's Girl," but I'm kind of tired of it.

Elvis Presley - Burning Love VS. Joe Cocker - Feelin' Alright
Joe Cocker's great but he doesn't measure up to The King.

Whitesnake - Is This Love VS. Steely Dan - My Old School
Both good, but "Is This Love" is one of my favorite songs.

White Rabbit - Jefferson Airplane VS. Lynyrd Skynyrd-Needle and the Spoon
Tough call, but I like "White Rabbit" a little more.

ROUND 1 DAY 4

Sexy Celebrity

Round 1, Day 5

1. Pleasant Valley Sunday
2. ZZ Top
3. Boys Are Back in Town
4. Madonna
5. Jessie’s Girl
6. Burning Love, Elvis
7. Whitesnake (both suck)
8. White Rabbit (I hate it, though)

ROUND 1 DAY 5

Robert Tepper - No Easy Way Out VS. The Monkees - Pleasant Valley Sunday
I don't like The Monkees. The Tepper song has always been one of my favorites.

Black Sabbath-N.I.B. VS. ZZ Top - La Grange
ZZ Top, FTW!

Thin Lizzy - Boys Are Back In Town VS. Head East - Never Been Any Reason
The second song sound cool but not as cool as Boys

Ram Jam - Black Betty VS. Material Girl - Madonna
Madonna does not belong in this tourney. Black Betty is easily one of the catchiest rock songs ever written.

Rick Springfield - Jessie’s Girl VS. Paul Revere & The Raiders - Indian Reservation
Paul Revere wishes he had Jessie's Girl too

Elvis Presley - Burning Love VS. Joe Cocker - Feelin' Alright
Elvis Shmelvis. Joe Cocker brings down the house with that tune

Whitesnake - Is This Love VS. Steely Dan - My Old School
Steely Dan is one of those bands I could never get into for some odd reason. Is This Love is one of the biggest 80's rock songs

White Rabbit - Jefferson Airplane VS. Lynyrd Skynyrd-Needle and the Spoon
White Rabbit is a classic, no doubt. But I just think Lynyrd know how to rock way more than Jefferson

Excuse me for introducing math into this thread which btw has never been one of my favorite subjects or accomplishments- but isn't this still Day 4???

Can I post day 5 tomorrow? Do we get bonus points for posting the 4 + 5 rounds today? Or a day off tomorrow?

ROUND 1 DAY 5

Robert Tepper - No Easy Way Out VS. The Monkees - Pleasant Valley Sunday

Black Sabbath-N.I.B. VS. ZZ Top - La Grange

Thin Lizzy - Boys Are Back In Town VS. Head East - Never Been Any Reason

Ram Jam - Black Betty VS. Material Girl - Madonna

Rick Springfield - Jessie’s Girl VS. Paul Revere & The Raiders - Indian Reservation

Elvis Presley - Burning Love VS. Joe Cocker - Feelin' Alright

Whitesnake - Is This Love VS. Steely Dan - My Old School

White Rabbit - Jefferson Airplane VS. Lynyrd Skynyrd-Needle and the Spoon

ROUND 1 DAY 5

Guess I'll post this now, twice in day. Don't get me wrong; I love music. But if we have to post 3 in a day I' m taking the next Midnight Train to Georgia .

1- The Monkees - PLEASANT VALLEY SUNDAY -
(robert tepper- no easy way out)
Monkees are more pop than rock, but the Sunday song is catchy.

2- Z Z Top - LA GRANGE
( black sabbath - n I b)
No contest here- ZZ rocks the top off the roof with this one. And besides, I think one of the guys on the album cover is
David Letterman

3- Head East - NEVER BEEN ANY REASON
( thin lizzy - boys are back in town)
I've just heard that' boys are back' song one too many times. Maybe if they went away for awhile and came back later?

4- Madonna - MATERIAL GIRL
( ram jam - black betty)
Whoa that ram jam song was a good one. Both songs imho are keepers . But I still have to give the nod to M Girl - it's bright it's sassy it's a classic.

5- - Paul Revere and the Raiders - INDIAN RESERVATION
( Rick Springfield - jesse's girl)
Both more pop than rock and
Jesse 's Girl may even be the better song. But that was another one I liked only for the first 5000 times I heard it.

6-Joe Cocker - FEELING ALRIGHT
( elvis - burning love)

7- Steely Dan - MY OLD SCHOOL
( whitesnake - is this love?)

8- Jefferson Airplane - WHITE RABBIT
( lynyrd skynyrd - needle and the spoon)
White Rabbit just blows you out of the water- or the rabbit hole, Eerie and mesmerizing wirh a powerful resolution

Btw @mojofilter, that was a nice pairing on Rabbit and Needle.
I notice that a lot of these
song - couples are linked by a similar theme. I don' t know how you sift through all these songs to match them up like this-but it's pretty cool.

ROUND 1 DAY 5

Robert Tepper - No Easy Way Out VS. The Monkees - Pleasant Valley Sunday

I think they're both mediocre and fun at the same time.

Black Sabbath-N.I.B. VS. ZZ Top - La Grange

I love La Grange, and it still wasn't close.

Thin Lizzy - Boys Are Back In Town VS. Head East - Never Been Any Reason

One of my favorites.

Ram Jam - Black Betty VS. Material Girl - Madonna

Easy, Madonna isn't rock anyway.

Rick Springfield - Jessie’s Girl VS. Paul Revere & The Raiders - Indian Reservation

Close match as I quite like both.

Elvis Presley - Burning Love VS. Joe Cocker - Feelin' Alright

My favorite Elvis song.

Whitesnake - Is This Love VS. Steely Dan - My Old School

Fairly simple even though I do like the first.

White Rabbit - Jefferson Airplane VS. Lynyrd Skynyrd-Needle and the Spoon

Love both!

Sexy Celebrity

Round 1, Day 6

1. Bob Dylan
2. Pour Some Sugar On Me
3. John Mellencamp
4. Brother Louie
5. Dancing in the Dark
6. Van Morrison
7. Stone Temple Pilots
8. Hurdy Gurdy Man

BEYOND RIGGED!

ROUND 1 DAY 6

Warren Zevon - Desperadoes Under the Eaves VS. Like a Rolling Stone - Bob Dylan
Dylan's a legendary songwriter, but I prefer Zevon. He's also got the better voice.

Rolling Stones-Heart of Stone VS. Def Leppard - Pour Some Sugar on Me
This one's just more fun.

Three Dog Night-The Show Must Go On VS. John Mellencamp - Ain't Even Done With The Night
Easy choice. I don't like Mellencamp and I love that TDN song.

Eagles - One Of These Nights VS. Stories - Brother Louie
Man, come on. I had a rough night and I hate the ****in' Eagles, man.

All Along the Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix VS. Bruce Springsteen - Dancing in the Dark
There are only two Springsteen songs that I like and "Dancing in the Dark" is not one of them.

Jethro Tull-Hymn 43 VS. Van Morrison - Wild Night
Not overly fond of either.

Bob Seger - We've Got Tonight VS. Stone Temple Pilots - Plush
I like STP a lot and considered nominating them myself, but they just don't compare to Seger.

Donovan - Hurdy Gurdy Man VS. Layla - Derek and the Dominoes
This match sucks. I really love both of these. Donovan wins it for me only because it's my nomination.

ROUND 1 DAY 6

Warren Zevon - Desperadoes Under the Eaves VS. Like a Rolling Stone - Bob Dylan
I didn't like the first one. Dylan's Rolling Stone is a rock masterpiece

Rolling Stones-Heart of Stone VS. Def Leppard - Pour Some Sugar on Me
Tough match! I went with the catchier tune

Three Dog Night-The Show Must Go On VS. John Mellencamp - Ain't Even Done With The Night
I just couldn't get into Three Dog Night. Mellencamp is cool

Eagles - One Of These Nights VS. Stories - Brother Louie
This is probably my all-time favorite Eagles song

All Along the Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix VS. Bruce Springsteen - Dancing in the Dark
Tough match! I would normally give that Jimi cover version my vote, but I'll give it to Bruce this time

Jethro Tull-Hymn 43 VS. Van Morrison - Wild Night
Wild Night is a kickass song. I also like Mellencamp's version of that song.

Bob Seger - We've Got Tonight VS. Stone Temple Pilots - Plush
Another tough match! I'm going with Seger

Donovan - Hurdy Gurdy Man VS. Layla - Derek and the Dominoes
Layla is easily a better song than Hurdy Gurdy

Women will be your undoing, Pépé
ROUND 1 DAY 6

Warren Zevon - Desperadoes Under the Eaves VS. Like a Rolling Stone - Bob Dylan
Dylan takes it

Rolling Stones-Heart of Stone VS. Def Leppard - Pour Some Sugar on Me
A little surprised I'm doing this but I'm actually going with Leppard

Three Dog Night-The Show Must Go On VS. John Mellencamp - Ain't Even Done With The Night
Not a fan of Mellencamp and this is a great TDN song I haven't heard in too long a time

Eagles - One Of These Nights VS. Stories - Brother Louie
One of those impossible choices

All Along the Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix VS. Bruce Springsteen - Dancing in the Dark
Another older Springsteen song could have swayed me

Jethro Tull-Hymn 43 VS. Van Morrison - Wild Night
Always got a kick out of Ian Anderson's style of performing and this is a great song but I'm a bit bias

Bob Seger - We've Got Tonight VS. Stone Temple Pilots - Plush
Fanboy of both and while I do prefer Plus, I'm going to go with the theme of Classic Rock

Donovan - Hurdy Gurdy Man VS. Layla - Derek and the Dominos

ROUND 1 DAY 6
Got 'erased ' again so I' m just going to try to post the winners and a few comments. Maybe this device doesn't like my long posts so early in the day

1- Dylan LIKE A ROLLING STONE
Like I said, for me; when it comes to Dylan no one else exists. One of his best, and one of the greatest songs in rock. Still hear it done in local clubs, concerts and taverns - and you can bet the whole audience sings along.

2-Rolling Stones - HEART OF STONE

3- John Mellancamp - AIN'T EVEN DONE WITH THE NIGHT

4- Eagles - ONE OF THESE NIGHTS

5-Jimi Hendrix -ALL ALONG THE WATCHTOWER
Dancing is a catchy one, but you know, on that video it looks to me like Bruce dances like Ed Norton. Besides, no match for Hendrix 's searing guitar and the mysterious and powerful song by Dylan.

6- Van Morrison - WILD NIGHT

7- Bob Seger - WE'VE GOT TONIGHT

8- Derek and the Dominoes - LAYLA -
Sorry this had to be paired with Donovan as I' m a fan of his music. But Layla is another one of the greatest rock songs - achingly beautiful - and Slowhand is one of the best guitarists in the world. It all comes together in this one.
