Transhumanism

What is your opinion on transhumanism? It's something I am interested in, but it's difficult to explain to people who don't have an opinion on it. For me, it has to do with altering one's thoughts to achieve improved states of consciousness (but not as part of a traditional school of meditation. It also does not involve the use of illegal drugs.).

I've engaged in some mental activities that I think have altered my consciousness for the better, but I'm also worried that there may have been negative side effects, and it's difficult to talk about. (For example, there is a line of reasoning that you can achieve happiness by shutting down your thoughts completely, and while I had a meaningful experience with this, at times I felt like it was making me lose my mind, so I don't recommend these extreme lines of thinking to most people who aren't prepared for it).

Basically, I developed an interest in it because I experienced some abnormalities of thought when I was younger, and was interested in what the source or logic of these abnormal thoughts was, and I was able to find some answers that satisfied me.

Trouble with a capital "T"
I never heard the term 'transhumanism' until today. Though apparently it is a thing, it seems to have different focuses.

From Wiki:
Transhumanism is a philosophical and intellectual movement that advocates the enhancement of the human condition by developing and making widely available new and future technologies that can greatly enhance longevity, cognition, and well-being...

Some transhumanists speculate that human beings may eventually be able to transform themselves into beings of such vastly greater abilities as to merit the label of posthuman beings...

...some critics argue transhumanism is a dangerous resurgence of many discriminatory attitudes and elitist ideals of the discredited eugenics movements of the past...
Sounds kinda Borg like to me It also sounds like Elon Musk's new toy:

I've tried the meditation of shutting down all thoughts - very difficult because concentrating on not thinking is a thought.

And I found that trying and failing at it over and over, as thoughts keep invading, can be frustrating - which is a state not conducive to meditation. For me, it was best to only try this method for a limited period of time, and if unable to get anywhere with it, to abandon it temporarily, then try again some other time.

But I have had rare occurrences where it's happened naturally - and I'm not talking about just momentarily zoning out, although it is similar. It's hard to describe, but I've had these experiences where, only after "coming to" do I realize all my conscious brain activity had stopped, yet I wasn't asleep, and was still conscious the entire time. This is why it's hard to describe because how can you be aware that you were fully conscious, yet also remember that you had no thoughts or conscious thinking activity within a certain time period?

Anyway, it's a very interesting state (after the fact anyway, when you can look back and analyze it). It's very refreshing, like having your brain go on a vacation while your body stayed home.

Jim was fed up with his wife going on and on during sex about her Kegel exercises. He swore it would be the last time she tried to pull that "Snap into a Slim Jim!" stunt.
