Your favorite candy

I mainline Windex and horse tranquilizer
All time? Marathon bars - caramel and milk chocolate. They were discontinued in the early 80s. Another company makes something similar now called Curly Whirlys but they don't taste quite the same.

Also used to love Kraft chocolate caramels but I don't think they make those any more, either.

Current favorite: Caramel Creams or Almond Joy

Frozen gansitos are the best.
I cannot eat a candy that is trying to lick me.
there are limits.

Well, I wouldn't want to be licked by my candy, either

I definitely remember Marathon bar. Chocolate and caramel is just a classic combo, and they were really delicious.

I'm a sucker for a Butterfinger, but will binge a bag of Twizzlers, from time to time.
I can't find a clip. but there was a scene in Gypsy (1962) where someone (pretty sure Karl Malden) is munching on a Butterfinger bar. Trying to find it I discovered there was some sort of commercial tie-in, product placement.

I didnt buy any candy for Halloween, nor did I eat any. Thats makes about as much sense as having a salad for dinner on Thanksgiving.
I like the Marathon bar reference, blast from the past.
A very underrated candy bar is the Zero bar. Dangerously good, but not available everywhere which is why I probably forgot to mention it.

Seems to me I use to like some candy type thing that was like carmel bites in a bag? Anybody remember those?
That sort of rings a bell... but details are fuzzy

Cadbury makes something similar now called Curly Wurlys - I got a few off Amazon. Same size and shape.... the taste isn't quite right (although I could be mis-remembering - it's been 40 years, after all) but it might be worth giving them a try.

Is it just me, or does candy not taste the same as it did when I was a kid?

I remember Reese's Peanut Butter Cups tasted like chocolate and peanut butter. I ate one the other day and it had almost a burning sensation in my mouth - I tasted neither chocolate nor peanut butter - but rather just sugar (the burning sensation felt much like it would if I tried to eat a spoonful of raw sugar) - I could actually feel what seemed like granules between my teeth - sugar granules.

Its probably nicotine. Explains why I eat so more of them.

Adults lose alot of their taste buds as they get older which is why I tend to like really spicy hot foods. That could be one reason. But it wouldn't surprise me if that in the quest for more profits Reese's Peanut Butter Cups are now made with less peanuts and less chocolate but more sugar and more chemicals. I've noticed some store bought sweets will burn my tongue too and generally taste like overly sweet fakey sugar.

It wouldn't surprise me if there's a lower coco content, especially given the rise in chocolate prices in the last year (poor harvests in W.Africa have really hit the market) but there's all kinds of stuff in your chocolate, so it may well be something else.

If we're just talking chomping chocolate (as opposed to the more expensive, level up stuff) then I'd say Malteasers, Double Deckers and Kit Kat are the main three, depending on the texture I want. If it's just chocolate, then Dairy Milk, Galaxy or Bourneville.

That said, Christmas isn't Christmas unless I have a Milk Chocolate Orange. I probably prefer the Dark version, but it's Christmas and that means the milk choc version is more in keeping with the time of year. I also had a mint one last year which was delicious too.

Sadly, I hate peanuts and peanut butter, which means I miss out on a lot of candies and cookies.

Favorite candies are always chocolate, though. None of those fruity things like Skittles. Blech. Give me M&Ms or Lindt truffles or even just a Hershey bar or Nestle Crunch.

To avoid the sugar, though, I try to stick to Atkins chocolate options. Their truffles are good, though pricey.
Depending on how strict you are, you can have dark chocolate with a cocoa content over 70% without too much trouble in Atkins/low carb diets. The higher the %, the better after that. Of course, if you don't like dark choc then that's not good either.

Yup, dark chocolate has been a bit of a lifesaver (plus I prefer it to milk chocolate). But I do enjoy many Atkins chocolates. Other brands of "keto friendly" sweets are either problematic tummy-wise or just taste nasty. It's a never-ending process of learning what's out there.

It's not just Reese's; almost all the candy tastes ultra-sweet to me now (and granular, where as I don't remember candy feeling like chewing solid sugar between my teeth when I was a kid).

And it's not just candy, but all the cupcake-style treats don't taste the same to me either - instead of tasting like the flavors they're advertised as, they all just taste like some sort of cake made out of mostly sugar.

That sounds like my expedience too with many sweets these days. So I don't eat them. I haven't had enough to say it's all of them, or to say I've changed or the products have changed, but I do have similar experiences as you described.

Gansitos still taste pretty much the same as ever!
