The Ladies Man

Funniest movie I've seen in a long while. I do have some minor qualms with it, but this really is a delightful comedy (and an effective satire as well). Can't wait to see more from the Jer.

The Addiction

This is a tough one to write about, especially after only a single viewing. It's an absolutely fascinating, complex piece of filmmaking from Ferrara. Hard to digest.

In The Heart of the Sea. 6.5/10,worth a watch.

The hateful eight. 3/10,almost as bad as Kill Bill and toooooooo loooong.

Totally agree with Hateful 8 and Kill Bill, although I like Vol. 2.

In The Heart of the Sea sucked though man. That film was garbage and felt longer than the Hateful 8.

Damn.
Probably the best film of the year. Why didn't you like it?

Wanna Date? Got Any Money?
NoES 4: The Dream Master - This one actually surprises me the most for how much I actually love it, the characters are the most likable since Freddy's Revenge and I think this is my favorite Renny Harlin movie. 7/10

NoES 5: The Dream Child - Actually the hardest to sit through for me, the darker plot is a nice change of pace but I always seem to get bored and thus preoccupied during the viewing of it, and have trouble finishing it. 5.5/10

The Wayward Wife (1953)
Beautifully constructed piece of cinema...

Because I Said So (2007)

Featuring quite a good cast, this is nevertheless one of the most aggravating movies I've ever seen. Diane Keaton is the mother of three grown, beautiful women who cannot stop meddling in the lives of her daughters. They are Mandy Moore, Lauren Graham, and Piper Perabo. Graham and Perabo are shown getting married at the first of the move, so we don't know if Keaton interfered there, but they are happy, so obviously not. The main thrust of the flick is Keaton interfering with Moore's affairs to the point where I was hoping for Keaton to be killed in a drive-by or an earthquake or run over by a steamroller. The fist half of the movie is mainly pain and destruction comedy, with Keaton dropping plates, Moore dropping stuff, the leading man's little son running amok and causing people to drop plates, and even pushing a cake in the face of Keaton who starts crying. Oh yeah, Keaton cries a lot in this one. And Moore, although the leading lady and sincere in her role, is irritating also as she is something of a ditz that we are supposed to feel sorry for. Sorry, no dice. This whole family is unbearable because they can't get out of each other's way for a second. The only good things about it are Gabriel Macht as the better of the two boyfriends and the ending. I'm not kidding about how bad this was. It even has Keaton accidentally get stuck on a porn site and her dog getting horny and humping an ottoman. High comedy, folks. The only reason I sat there through this was because I'm sick with flu and everything hurts and I didn't want to talk about the movie with my wife. So, on it went. Glad I made it through. I think it actually broke my fever.

Inglourious Basterds (2009) by Quentin Tarantino and Eli Roth

As a warm up for The Hateful Eight i rewatched Tarantinos Inglourious Basterds yesterday. In short its a damn fine movie and the start of Tarantinos revisionist cinema within the thematics of a revenge movie. In a valuejudgement i would say this the finest movie by Tarantino closely followed by Pulp Fiction. Whether you like the style of Tarantino the historical revisionist take on ww2 should be interesting for most people.

Fixed Bayonets (1951)

A low budget war film from Fuller that has a small unit of American soldiers tasked with slowing down the huge number of opposing Chinese Army in Korea, whilst their own troops get a chance to regroup. Another gritty and no-frills offering from Fuller and although it fails to hit the heights of The Steel Helmet, which is probably my favourite war film, it is still a must see for any fans of the genre. Also contains the uncredited film debut of James Dean.

The Boy Next Door (2015)

I got this movie for my wife because she likes all those crazy Lifetime movies, and I figured this would be something similar. Well, she thought it sucked and I enjoyed it. It is dumb as hell, but I thought it was funny and easy to watch. It reminded me a lot of The Guest, and I would say they're fairly comparable in terms of quality. J Lo looked good in this too.
The film is nothing like The Guest, if you're referring to the Adam Wingard flick. That film was a throwback to 80's horror films, disguised as a modern thriller. The Boy Next Door is exactly what you said it was, a big budget lifetime movie starring someone who desperately is trying to stay relevant and sexy. She fails on both accounts as does the film. We've seen crazy psycho boyfriends before, the actor playing him does nothing new for the character. He gives menacing stares and physical threats. Give me something more conflicted with him.

Genre wise, they are nothing alike either. The only things in common is that someone has a new person enter their life and they won't leave. Something that happens in a lot of films. To compare these two is just weird....in my opinion of course. I don't want to come off as too stern or a sour puss.

The Guest is an under seen flick from 2014 that has 90% on Rotten Tomatoes. Boy Next Door sits at 10%, deservedly.

Sundays and Cybele (1962) 4.5/5

A sad and moving story of alienation beautifully lensed by Henri Decae. Excellent in every way - well, maybe aside from the ending which I found a bit disappointing but the rest was great.

A.I. (2001) - Really not what I was expecting. Don't waste your time with this movie unless your just morbidly curious like I was considering all of Kubrick's involvement. I found it to be the most void ending to any movie. The only thing I truly liked about it was Haley Joel Osment, Jude Law, and the first forty five minutes. I would probably give it a 5.2/10.
It's been a long time since I saw it but, very much like you, I vaguely recall liking the opening and overall the first part of the movie kept me interested but then it all went downhill from there, and the ending - well, it just went over my head.
Not sure how I'd feel about it if I saw it now.
