I think Spider-Man 2 deserves to be up there. Well above Finding Nemo or either Harry Potter. Shrek 2 needs to shut up as well.

Spider-Man 2 is number 11, but I think it should have been up there instead of Episode 1.

i dont think episode 1 deserves it at all. it just made all that money because star wars was in the name. even though the movie was pretty mediocre in my book.

10 most succseful movies... I hate the correlation money and succes have gotten. If their relationship was, say, a cinder block, I would take that block and put it on a anvil then destroy it with a large sledge hammer. Dang, ...I'm fierce.

There was an interesting programme on here recently detailing the top 100 UK movies - not by money grossed, but by ticket sales. The top 10 was interesting to say the least:

I saw the programme as well Tacitus. Although the top 10 movies I posted were the highest grossing worldwide. Not just specific to the US or any other country.

Titanic had a budget of $200 million. The gross, $1.800 million, is 9 times the budget. The Blair Witch Project had a budget around $35.000 and had in november 1999 grossed $140,5 million - in USA alone (all according to IMDb). That is 4000 times the budget. So which of these two films has been the most successful?

Well, in those terms, but Titanic had a bigger audience, so got out to more people and therefore got more profit overall

In that case, if we go by audience, I think the list Tacitus posted is more correct. If we go by profit, I think the example I posted is of a more "relevant nature".

I think you need to step away from the debate. Blair Witch slaughtered the industry as far as profit goes - ratio style boyee'.

I pretty much agree with the list, Titanic especially is an awesome movie. That one deffinately deserves the number 1 spot. I would put starwars episode I in second place. I really like this movie.

Im suprised 2001 a space oddyssey isnt on it, even Pirates Of The Carribean judging from how many teenage girls went to see it. I thought E.T should have been there too...

although im not a great fan of ET im still surprised it isnt up there with teh rest. and i do agree that films like ep 1 and shrek 2 should not be up there.

Why's Episode 1 up there? It's not all because it's just Star Wars- it's the fact that it was the return of Star Wars in 16 years. Fans waited a long time to see the newest chapters of the Star Wars saga, and when Episode 1 made it's debut, it's no surprise that lines of fans of all ages and generations across the world purchased a lot of tickets for opening day and for the film's overall theatrical run. I mean, c'mon, it's Star Wars... and to top it off, it was the newest one anyone had seen. I mean, just today, I can still remember the crowd going nuts and cheering when the main titles for Episode 1 exploded. So it's no wonder why it's up there.

yeah i suppose thats why, but it was a major dissapointment, im surprised it hasnt bene knocked off the chart though. hopefully they will get it right with EP 3. im wetting myself in excitement

When I looked up the top grossing movies of all time on Yahoo, the list was MUCH different. Well, maybe not MUCH, but it was quite different.

Titanic definitely belongs in the Top 10 list, but I don't know if it deserves the number one position. Don't get me wrong - I love the movie. It cops alot of flak though, particularly the theme song, which I don't really understand. *shrugs*

Anyways, all three LOTR films have earned their place in that list, although I'm not a huge fan of the books. What am I talking about? I haven't even finished reading them!

The two first Harry Potter movies, in terms of the quality of the whole thing, do not deserve their positions in the top 10, but since it is money grossed, I'm not surprised, since the books were such a massive success.
