Mystery/Detective Movies please

Tools

Hi Guys,
I am die hard fan of mystery suspense genre and I have seen lots of movie so far. But there are always some hidden gems or underrated movies which people forget. I am looking for those.
For example I have seen the top IMDB and famous movies on this genre, the other day someone recommended Jennifer Eight (Andy Garcia) which I liked.
Language is not constraint I can watch them with subtitles.
My Taste : I liked following movies :
  • Zodiac - Great Serial Killer movie
  • Secret in their Eyes - Spanish Gem
  • Memento - Wow
  • The Usual Suspect - Excellent Twist
  • Memories of Murder - Korean Gem
I like detective movies where some cop is investigating series of murder and he is smart with accurate guesses which are very logical and turns out that the killer is what he thinks looks like etc. Sherlock Holmes for example.

Please help me with some recommendation and don't mind the ratings .

Thanks for the reply, I haven't seen Le Couperet I will check that out.

Most of the Hitchcock films.
The Long Goodbye
Farewell, My Lovely
The Big Sleep
Darwin Awards
All the President's Men
Frailty
Alphaville
Brick
Assassination of a High School President
LA Confidential

Besides Hitchcock movies (which are a given):

The Conversation (1974, Coppola)
Diabolique (1955, Cluzot)
Charade (1963, Donen)
Laura (1944, Preminger)
Blow-Up (1966, Antonioni)

Not necessarily do all deal with "cops" but here are some masterful films for mystery and suspense.

I second Chinatown

I forgot Chinatown...
Rashomon is certainly worth watching...

& Twin Peaks is awesome... I am still in the process of completing 2nd Season.
But I highly recommend it.. Also Blue Velvet & Mulholland Drive.
I would have recommended Lost Highway, but it's not everyone's cup of tea.

Bright light. Bright light. Uh oh.
Quai des Orfèvres
Green for Danger
In the Heat of the Night
And Then There Were None
The Day of the Jackal

I assume since you like Sherlock Holmes that you've seen the Basil Rathbone series of films. If not, I'd recommend the 1939 versions of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and The Hound of the Baskervilles. The 1959 Hammer version of The Hound of the Baskervilles is pretty good too.

The Basil Rathbone Scarlet Claw is the best in the modern series and has a serial killer.

If you can find it, there is Tony Curtis and Henry Fonda in The Boston Strangler, a police investigation of a real serial killer.

No, but you reminded me of Gosford Park.
