Web Series / Webisodes

Ok, so I was completely bored last night, and had just finished catching up on Burn Notice (<----love it!) episodes on Hulu.com, when I happened across this Web Series with Rosario Dawson called Gemini Division.

Since it was scifi, of course, I had to check it out.

Only 2 episodes so far, and kind of Cloverfield-esque, with Rosario's character (and her Beau) constantly speaking to you, the watcher, via their camera/video phone, and of course, chronicling (sp?) their adventures (the whole 10 minutes of it) to date.

I'm not sure Im into 5 minute episodes. Actually, I'm not. Even when I watch amateur stuff on Youtube, it needs to be 8 minutes or longer per episode. Still, this one actually piqued my interest, and I hope that if it is good, (NBC?) and other large media houses will just use their webisodes to tease up interest in shows they will ultimately spawn into feature length television shows.

I'm not sure.

Then you have the Webisodes, which are basically online filler episodes for currently running television shows. These, as far as I know, are meant only to fill in the gap between seasons, keep fan interest piqued, and fan out a few additional storylines. (a la Battlestar Galactica 10-minute webisodes).

So. What web series/webidoes are you into? What's good? (It better be FREE! ) Also, share any insight, thoughts, future forecasts on the lifespan of online shows that you have.

I found God, Inc. a while back, and found it to be quite the humorous commentary on belief in God.

Ok, so lately, I got roped into watching Pink: The Series -

- and ya'll know I HATE 5:00 minute episodes. Well this one has 3-4 minute episodes and even I couldnt stop watching it. I could never bring myself to seriously watch V.I.P. with Pamela Anderson, but if Natalie Raitano is as ridiculously hilarious in VIP as she is in Pink, then Im going to have to add it to the list of seasons to catch up on.

Also, I was surprised to see they snatched Sheree J. Wilson of Walker: Texas Ranger for this one as well.

The show is very well done - totally slapstick, and definitely of a "certain" humor. A few have wondered if it would do as well in an hour length time frame, and I have to wonder as well, since most of the writing and scenes parallel the comic book reading idea, and leave a lot to the imagination.

good stuff.

and here are two others I havent watched yet, but I'm wondering if any of you guys have seen them:

Foreign Body -

- webisodes absed on the book by Robin Cook (which I have never read). I was clicking around Hulu.com and clicked into this one at random. Is it me, or does the show look like soft porn? The book must have been quite the page turner (hardy har har), but beyond that 2:00 minute episodes would drive an obedient chimpanzee insane!

Sorry Michael Eisner, a big NO to that one unless he can expand the timeframe.

Finally, LG15: The Resistance:

this show's premise is actually quite good. I happened across it first by catching a random episode on YouTube - and I remember spending at least an hour trying to figure out what in the world was going on. it almost seemed like watching a strange and intriguing game that was even weirder because I couldnt tell at first if they were real or making it all up. Suffice to say it definitely got my vote for interesting and new, and even though at the time I resented 9-12:00 minute episodes, we can all see they are now a giant when it comes to time frame.

critics say the video quality and editing could be better. for those watching on YouTube, quality of picture suffers - on Hulu, not as badly, but you DEF get the feel that it is more indie.
