Am I the only one who enjoyed Panic Room?
I enjoyed it fine, but while it is an effective and well made thriller, it's simply not in the same class as his best work. I like the little nod to Kubrick's The Killing at the very end, the acting is all good, and of course it benefits immensely from Fincher's visual flair and seemingly effortless style, but ultimately Panic Room is unambitious. By design, true, but unambitious, all the same. It sets out to be a very good, slick genre piece, and that's exactly what it is. And that's all that it is. Nothing wrong with that, but it hardly places it among the movies that have his style plus are attempting to do more.

Clearly Fincher could do nothing but this type of thriller and be incredibly successful, in box office terms. I am glad he is turned on by projects that are more diverse than that, whether they always succeed with audiences or critics or not.
