Am I alone is this? It's a weird classification to wonder about.

There a few movies in this category for me, and I've often wondered why and/or how they exist.

By "Great" I mean one that you recognized as great while watching, or I suppose even merely "a great watch".

....but still would rather not see again for some reason.

For me, the list would include things like:
  • Sophie's Choice
  • Glengarry Glenn-Ross (for the beginning and ending only)
  • Field of Dreams
...(many others)

The thing I find weird about this is that it seems that the two metrics ("really like"-ness and "would see again"-ness) should be the same thing.

Still not 100% sure what this is. Perhaps something akin to "it takes emotional effort to watch", but that doesn't completely cover it for me.

When they have a cowboy, they want a poet.
They'll say "I don't care if he's a poet or cowboy, so long as he's a nice guy. But oh, I'm so attracted to that bad guy over there."
Understand this last part, and you'll get them all.

For some reason, I think we already have a thread like this.

That’s what I thought. If we were nice, we would post a link for him.
