Pixelated genitals in cinema?

Tools

As funny as that scene in Everything Everywhere All At Once was, the obscuring did distract me a little. I would've fine with it if it was for a trailer, but seeing pixelated genitals on an actual movie screen just feels weird. Has it now become more taboo of all a sudden to show nudity? I know particularly graphic sex scenes earn you an NC-17 rating, but R-rated movies used to be able to show nudity, full-frontal included. Not a good harbinger for the future.
Exactly! Thank you for understanding my point. Itís very distracting.

I would have assumed Cantonese, since I thought the character was from Hong Kong (as is Yeoh, herself, I believe.
Michelle was born and grew up in Malaysia, but her acting career kicked off in Hong Kong.

I thought this thread was about Japan , where it's a law to not show the bottom bits. Hence, the pixels.

As for this thread. I think this is more about getting around the censor - to avoid getting the R.

In EEAAO, it was probably done for comedic effect, as a reference to Japanese porn.

Ah, well. Right. Thanks for educating me, guys.

In the trailer I've seen it's Thor's butt that's pixilated. The front shot of him ends at the waist. It's a green-band trailer which would explain the lack of nudity. It's entirely possible that Marvel might allow a bare (male) butt in the actual film.

See, at least I didnít imagine it! So supposing it is allowed in the actual film, am I right in understanding that this is because this trailer could be shown before a PG film etc. and hence itís pixelated just in case? Otherwise, what is the logic behind pixelating?

Right, green-band trailers are censored for "general audiences", so it can play on TV or before PG-rated films. If his bare butt is actually in the film, a red-band trailer would not be pixilated.

Didnít know anything about that at all! Thanks for clarifying.

TFW you spend 10 minutes showing the office receptionist how to do something on your computer, and after she leaves you realize one of your tabs says "Pixelated genitals". Phone call from HR in 5...4...3...

Will the response be, "no-no, I specifically was trying to inoffensive by having them pixelated"?

Well, sorry. Iíve watched the likes of The Dreamers at work in my lifetime, and what do you know, Iím still here.

Yeah, I guess if one of your open tabs is going to include the word genitals, this is about the best-case scenario.

I mean, it could've said "Completely Uncensored Genitals!" or something.

Dont be surprised if they speak behind your back as 'That guy who is into Pixelated thingies'.

You weren't the only one worried about Thor's butt . . . to the extent that it was addressed in an interview.
Ha, yes! That made my evening

I absolutely love that you found that piece of vital evidence.

However, just watched a trailer for the new Thor with Natalie Portman & the hammer & all that, and the genitals are pixelated there too.
Well, you won't have to worry about that in the final film, apparently:

Thanks, yes, that one has already been flagged to me, but good news! At least there is that.
