Rodent's 1950-Present Sci-Fi and Futuristic-Fantasy Movies

I just watched the Alien Nation movie for the first time. Your list inspired me to -- and it was on TV.

I've never seen the show. I remember the show -- if I watched it, though, I don't remember that.

The movie was good but kind of lackluster. I liked Mandy Patinkin as the alien "George" but found James Caan's Sykes character a little bland. Thank God it was a short movie (90 minutes). Seemed like there should have been more to it -- thus, I guess, the reason why a TV show was made. I give it
. I do wonder if there were any better sci-fi movies in 1988, though.

These are the ones I've seen so far:

1951
The Day The Earth Stood Still
1956
Invasion Of The Body Snatchers
1962
La Jetée
1963
The Nutty Professor
1966
Fantastic Voyage
1968
Planet Of The Apes
1972
Solaris
1976
Logan’s Run
1977
Star Wars
1979
Alien
1980
The Empire Strikes Back
1982
Blade Runner
1983
Return Of The Jedi
1984
The Terminator
1985
Back To The Future
1986
Aliens
1987
RoboCop
1990
Total Recall
1991
Terminator 2: Judgment Day
1993
Jurassic Park
2002
Signs
2006
Children Of Men
2009
Moon
2014
Guardians of the Galaxy

The films that I put in bold are the ones that I truly LOVE. I like most of the other picks too, though.

Cool list, Rodent!

I must be further behind on recent movies than I realized. The only movies listed from 2000 on that I've seen are Signs and Moon. I liked Moon, but I didn't care for Signs. I thought the ending was kind of lame.
You're not behind, it's just that the noughties were crap for most films.

Congrats on finishing your list, Rodent. I think it's a good concept and it works well.

One thing I did mean to mention when it came up, but the crapness that is Aliens revolted me so I forgot to mention it, was that it's a shame The Hidden was made the same year as Robocop. Well, in your case, anyway. If you can imagine such a terrible world as one without Robocop, would The Hidden have been your choice for 1987?

Seriously what's the point of you? I've been here nearly two years and you're the first person I'm actually hoping Yoda bans, and I doubt I'm the only one.

Kudos, for the majority a nice list - these are the only ones I've not seen, might check some of them out at some point (except Cloverfield as that never appealed to me at all).

1950
The Flying Saucer
1952
Untamed Women
1957
Invasion Of The Saucer-Men
1962
La Jetée
1965
Planet Of The Vampires
1970
Scream And Scream Again
1994
Death Machine
2005
Doom
2008
Cloverfield

I've seen 35 of them. Personally, I'd have The Thing over Blade Runner, and Strange Days over Species, but it's hard to argue with most of those choices.

I still have not seen the much beloved Blade Runner.

I predict I probably wouldn't like it. But I'm not sure.

I had a tough choice on The Thing or Blade Runner. But in terms of the thread, it had to go to BR.

87 was between Robo, The Running Man, Predator, Steel Dawn and Batteries Not Included.
I've not actually seen The Hidden. Thanks for the suggestion though I'll grab that if I ever get the chance.

I've not seen Steel Dawn (nor heard of it for that matter) or The Hidden and it's been a very long time since I saw Batteries Not Included... but RoboCop is definitely better than the other two.

I have been thinking about doing a top 100 sci fi list but it's already implicit into my top 100 live action, top 100 animation and top TV series lists (because I would certainly include TV series there).

Go for it, Guap...

I kept more to a "must see" list rather than a favourites, even though a bunch of faves did make some of the placements.

Well that's not a difficult decision, then. You made the right choice.

Here it is.

Lord High Filmquisitor
I loved most everything from the 80s to the present, although a few strike me as not being as high quality as the others. In particular, I thought that Event Horizon and Doom were terrible films.
